The Starcaster guitar is back. Virtually fabled since its original mid-to-late 70s tenure, the seldom-seen Starcaster occupies a special place in our history as Fenders one and only offset-waist semi-hollow electric guitar. Prized decades later by a new generation of adventurous guitarists with a flair for appealingly unconventional Fender style, the Starcaster now returns in fabulous new Modern Player form with greater sound, build and beauty thatll have you seeing stars.

The Fender Starcaster guitars thin semi-hollow offset body has a bound maple top and back, with stylish bound f holes. Its C-shaped maple neck has a 9.5-radius maple fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, black-dot inlays and the distinctively curvaceous Starcaster headstock. Other premium features include full-voiced dual Fender Wide Range humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching, three-ply black pickguard, four skirted amp-style control knobs (volume and tone for each pickup) and an Adjusto-Matic bridge with anchored tailpiece. Available in gorgeous Natural, Black and Aged Cherry Burst gloss finishes.

I ordered this unseen, right when Fender announced the production run. It took a VERY long time to arrive. I like it. It's Chinese-made, which surprised me at that price point. I own several Mexican-made Fenders and they are excellent, and I was kind of expecting the Starcaster to be Mexican also. That said, the fit and finish of this one (cherry sunburst) is really very good. Excellent, actually. The electronics seem passable; I have my reservations about them but they work. The p/ups are good, although not particularly standout. The playability, on the other hand, is great. Out of the box the intonation was spot-on, and the action nicely set up. I really like playing it, which is a pleasant change as I'm not much of fan of shiny maple fretboards. Overall; it's good. I was originally going to go with an Epiphone Sheraton II, but jumped when the chance to get one of these came along. Glad I did. It would have been a better deal had it come with a case of some sort, but it didn't.
