As the title suggests, this is another wonderful product by Mapex (KHS Industries). I'll break down by review by pros and cons. Pros: -insanely good pop/crack when played and tensioned tightly -decent quality Remo UX heads (not the best, but works) -2.3 mm hoops and nylon washers -L rod mount with memory lock (nice touch) and comes with a free drum key -well cut sharp bearing edges and snare bed -cost to value ratio is insane for a wooden side snare Cons (slight drawbacks): -discontinued now (according to Mapex USA/International), so get it while you can -bearing edge is NOT the SoniClear bearing edge, but still sharply cut and nice tone -throw-off is a major weakpoint...screws have 2.75" spacing (center to center) so you will need to drill holes if you want to install a remotely good throw-off -finish is a bit orange looking, but the grain is nicely presented -needs an L rod based mounting clamp that must be bought separately if you don't want to use a snare stand for it Conclusion: Great side snare at a solid price. With a few more $$$ input to change the heads and throw-off, it's worth more than the price suggests.
