The EVH 5150 Iconic Series satisfies the needs of gigging and recording guitarists craving that pure and powerful EVH tube tone, but at a more affordable price. Evolving from the revered EVH 5150III amplifiers, the Iconic Series delivers the searing sound and growling gain that the late-Eddie Van Halen made famous throughout his groundbreaking career.

Designed by renowned amp engineer, James Brown, the 5150 Iconic Series 40-watt 1x12 combo, is powered by two JJ 6L6 power tubes and voiced with two JJ ECC83S preamp tubes, providing all the firepower the modern guitarist needs. Armed with a custom designed EVH 12" Celestion speaker voiced specifically for this preamp circuit, the pristine cleans and searing high gain tones are tight, clear and articulate. The cabinet is constructed out of MDF with special internal plywood baffling for tight and increased bass response, and houses a custom designed EVH 12" Celestion speaker voiced specifically for this preamp circuit, so that the pristine cleans and searing high gain tones are tight, clear and articulate.

Punching above its weight, this combo features two channels with an extra voicing on each for even more versatility. The Green channel boasts an overdrive button to run from clean tones to increased gain, while the Red channel's burn button adds fiery crunch that's ideal for blistering leads.

Each channel houses its own gain and volume controls, allowing for level-matching the volume when switching between the clean and high gain channels. The channel two noise gates' quick attack suppresses any hiss while ensuring all staccato riffing is articulate and crisp, not choked and choppy. The Boost control on Channel 2 allows you to add another 10dB of foot-switchable volume to your tone - perfect for ensuring your solos cut through the mix. The control panel also includes shared EQ (Low, Mid and High), global resonance and presence knobs to adjust the low- and high-end aspects of your tone, and a global reverb control to add the perfect amount of bounce and decay for any room.

Other features include a two-button footswitch, effects loop, dual parallel speaker output jacks, 1/4 power switch to reduce wattage - allowing you to crank the amp and still preserve tone but without destroying your neighbor's solitude, and a speaker-emulated DI XLR with power amp mute for accurate all-tube EVH tone for recording direct or using through any PA system.

Sporting sophisticated and distinctive EVH style, the 5150 Iconic Series 40-watt 1x12 combo is wrapped in either Black or Ivory textured vinyl with a black cloth front grille and features silver and black 5150 and EVH logo badges in the upper left and lower right corners. This all-tube combo is finished off with a brushed aluminum top panel, vintage-style chicken-head knobs and molded black plastic top handle. A high-quality fitted cover is available as an EVH Accessory.

I am quite impressed with this amp simply put for a more affordable EVH option they did not skimp on quality. The clean channel is beautiful reminiscent of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe/Deville. Pristine and clear with amazing depth in the clarity. Love the overdrive option on channel 1 you can get some great metal tones but roll back the gain and it’s a blues rock monster my Stratocaster never sounded so good. Channel 2 is crushing gain for any genre of metal. It’s tight, aggressive but smooth. Need more? turn on the burn button, I’m not crazy about this feature because the amp already has gain for days but I guess some people need more. It’s pretty light for a combo of its size, still hefty but lighter than other combos this big. A 2 button foot switch for channel switching and turning the boost on. I’m still getting a feel for this amp and all its potential but so far it’s the nicest sounding amp I have ever owned and I’m quite pleased with it. Amp preferences are always subjective to your needs but I have owned Laney, Marshall, Traynor, Blackstar, Yamaha and old school Crate amps and this is by far my favourite amp no complaints.

I have it placed on a rolling audio-visual cart that puts it in front
of my guitar.
I get endless sustain standing in front of it.
Had to get a capo because my fingertips were getting blood dots under the skin from holding the string so long.
Have an Ibanez with Sustainiac pickup but never use it because the EVH amp does it with any guitar!

After trying it out for about an hour at L&M . I had to pick it up . I order in the white as the had the black in . I find this amp extremely manageable sound wise . I can get all the sounds from chimey blues to metal . I can rattle the windows or have it at bedroom low and the tone is the same . The Clean channel is amazing !! Sounds like a fender . The affordability is another big plus for me . An amp with this many features for the price was a easy choice . It's an awesome amp and I play it daily .

If you're a casual hard rock/metal player that just can't fall in love with amp sims and modelers this is the amp for you. It gives you that 5150 sound, even at lower practice volumes. The built in reverb and noise gate are light but appreciated. Even the green channel has a great metal tone with the overdrive on, but turn it off and it's a decent sparkly clean. If you need a variety of sounds look elsewhere but if you love high gain modern metal tones give this a shot.

Tested it last Saturday in the store. Sounds really good. I have a DSL40CR and won't give it up for this but it would be a difficult decision if they were side by side and I was buying today.
The 5150 has a really great reverb which provides a built in option. The DSL40CR has reverb but it is less than the 5150. The 5150 you can turn it down. The DSL you only turn it has high as the amp provides. That feature is better in the 5150.
I like them both. Massive high gain and both sound great when clean.
I would probably decide based on which one I could get if I was buying today.
You can't lose either way.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
