Question: Is this headphone good for tracking vocal recording without bleeding into the mic? - asked on Jan 8, 2024
Answer: These are semi-open headphones which means some audio will bleed outside of the headphones. For tracking vocals a set of closed back headphones will prevent leakage. - answered by Ron Elliott, Hamilton, Ontario

First off, even hearing buddy's review saying these are basically trash, lifeless etc, he doesn't quite get it, and apparently others too. I totally get why people are giving these sub par reviews.
First off, these are semi open back, and naturally have a more open, soft, and natural sound. That's the first thing. Closed back and ear buds are obv punchier. With seni open back head phones it's a trade off, because you're also gaining something, and that's dimension, space, crosstalk, a different stereo image closer to speakers. Also, for example, I do live sound on call, and I like using these, because I can solo stuff on the board loudly, but also hear what's going on outside still.
Second thing, and I think this is where most people likely fall off with these. Due to the ohms of these headphones, they really do need a pretty great headphone amp to get them to sound thier best. For example, if I listen to these plugged into my phone, they are quiet, dull, and kinda.lifeless. Wow, kinda.makes me wonder if people are just using these with thier phone, computer, or cheap interface. They still sound good, but nowhere near like they can when I use them with my Apollo, Apogee Mk2, or Neve headphone amps, and the Neve dedicated amp def sounds the best ot the 3.
Anyway, these aren't meant to sound like AT ATH-M50X's, or other closed backs. I'm also not saying these are the greatest ever headphones, but they definitely sound very natural, quite flat, but not boring or lifeless by any means. Now, if you want headphones.for listening to music only or something and u love a pre eq'd super fat punchy over the top sound, then no these aren't for you. If you mix, master, or record, and want headphones that are quite honest, and give you something in between closed back and speakers, or a second pair of headphones just to check mixes/masters on just to get another perspective these are great, but you do need a decent amp or they are too quiet, and won't sound right. These drivers need to be pushed.
Also, from a mix perspective, these are great for making panning/spatial moves, and they have very nice articulate high mids/high end from around 3khz-10khz, so they are great for dialing in/judging say the high end attack of acoustic/electric guitars, or the high end on vocals etc. They sound slightly bright around 5-7khz maybe, but its all about knowing your speakers/headphones also, so it's not an issue. I'm just listening to music on these as I'm writing this, and these are definitely in my arsenal. Got em too cheap used, and they took some getting used to, but now I love them. Personally, I still have another pair of HP's as my main pair, but like I say, I love using these as a second HP reference, and it really lets me know spatially, and in the high mids/highs how my moves are translating in Headphones.
Rambling nkw so I'll stop there, but that's my food for thought, advice, and opinion on these.

I feel bad being so harsh, but these are really poor headphones, even on sale. I am no stranger to "flat" headphones, that's what you want when you are mixing/mastering. The thing is, these aren't just flat, they are totally lifeless. Everything from the build quality to the audio quality feels absolutely cheap and uninspired. I will never purchase AKG headphones again.

Kelly Spriggs from the L&M store downtown Edmonton recommended these headphones to me when asked which ones would be best for mixing both acoustic sources and thickly layered electronic music. I cannot thank him enough. On that day, following Kelly's advice, I spent over an hour at that L&M store comparing all the headsets available there - K240 MK II always came on top. Not that I did not trust Kelly, I just wanted to make sure that we were on the same wavelength. Were we ever! These headphones are awesome in that they offer a very transparent and clear, natural sound - use them and you will most likely hear things you have not heard before in your mix. They do not lie.

I got my first pair of AKG 240's back in 1980!! I just gave them to my son for his stereo.......and they still work perfectly!!!!! Bought a new pair for myself without hesitation. There is a reason these are the standard in recording studios, and the preferred headphones for people who love their music. Do your ears a favour and get a pair. They will literally give you a lifetime of service and enjoyment.

I usually pick up headphones after having tested them thoroughly, but this time I went along with a detailed recommendation by one of the L&M staff at their Edmonton 107 Avenue store - and have never regretted that "shortcut". These are superclean headphones, which are perfect for audio editing and mastering. Their sound fidelity is second to none, they are actually a very helpful mastering too, more so that they are extremely comfortable due to their design and very modest weight. I recommend them without hesitation.

I got these headphones for christmas last year and was instantly blown away by their purity. There is no distortion of the sound at all. They are great for referencing your mixes and listening to music on high quality systems. A word of warning is that if your music is not well mixed or mastered they will make the imperfections noticeable because of their transparency and fidelity. On the other hand well mixed and mastered music really shines on these cans. All in all I love these headphones and their quirky but still cool looking design!

I've had these headphones for roughly a year now, and I can say that these are the most comfortable full size headphones I've ever had in my collection. They're light and sit firmly. I can use these comfortably throughout the day without any kind of pressure point or head ache. I've used Grados, ATs, Senns, etc, but these are without a doubt the best I've had for comfort. Sound quality wise, they're slightly lighter on the low end than most others I've had, but overall fidelity is well worth the sub-200 price tag. I have a marginally larger than average head size. For those of you who motorcycle for comparison, I fit a medium Arai Vector and large Shoei helmets comfortably.

Good headphones. Great sound with a very clear punch with a good headphone amp. I use them mostly connected to a TC Electronics Desktop Konnekt 6 to the laptop which really makes them sparkle.
Somewhat painful when wearing them for extended periods or maybe that's just because of my fat head. Kinda goofy looking. I think next time I might opt for the good old Sony MDR-7506 instead. Overall no real complaints though.
