The successor of the acclaimed range of totally integrated synthesizers adds 25% more calculating power and sports a redesigned housing and front panel. The new operating system adds several new FX such as a Tape Delay, Frequency Shifter and several new Distortion algorithms along with a new feature called Character.

Character allows you to adjust the overall tone of a preset reminiscent of several vintage and well-known synthesizers. In addition you can emphasis certain aspects of the patch to allow it to cut better through the mix, or fade it into the background with an extra-wide stereo field.

The new distortions were built from scratch and feature an extreme dynamic range along with sophisticated controls to tailor the sound to your specific needs. They can add everything from warm, tube-like overtones to complete sonic deconstruction more reminiscent of circuit-bending. The new algorithms also include a revamped bit and sampling-rate reduction, allowing you to change the quality and cutoff point with precise, continuously variable control.

The stereo Frequency Shifter and the new Ring Modulator are state of the art algorithms modelled with old '70s stomp boxes in mind.

The Tape Delay goes way beyond the possibilities of the real Tape Delays in the '60s and '70s. It smoothly syncs to tempo, lets you decide if a Doppler effect takes place when changing the tempo, and even switching the delay time between presets is all smooth, making it perfect for performers. Last but not least, a modification to the main "VCA" algorithm enables OS3 users to design gating FX known from electro and minimal influenced music.

Features:
• 37 Keys, Velocity and Aftertouch
• Two Pedal Input
• White LEDs
• Illuminated logo at the back

Almost 10 years later I still over this thing luke the day I bought it. Many synths have come and gone, but this one remains my favorite.

I purchased this synth in 2012, and have used it numerous times on projects through those three years. I'm the type of person who really enjoys using analog hardware. I have spent a lot of time experimenting with ARP 2600s, Moog Voyagers, Buchlas, Euroracks, et cetera. Very few digital synths interest me; but the Virus is an extraordinarily notable exception. Everything this synth does, it does extremely well. On top of that, all of the built in effects are actually fantastic. The oscillators sound as analog as any analog synth I've ever used, and the variety of oscillators that are there out of the box is staggering. The routing options are also fantastic! Especially within the VST. You would be hard pressed to find a better synth; but, be warned, it is an expensive investment. I personally feel that it is worth the time and effort to find one.

DISCLAIMER: I am an electronic music production hobbyist The number one thing is the sound, it is amazingly rich, lush, piercing and powerful where it needs to be. If you are new to synthesis, expect thousands of amazing presets to keep you busy for a long, long time. There is a big learning curve though.. when you start making your own sounds, but that's where things get awesome. I love this synth (not entirely analog, but that argument is moot anyway). If you are the type of sound designer who has the sound in their head and wants to re-create it, this is the way. Infinite parameters. If you want to emulate a sound, any sound, it can be done with the Virus. I tried out the Roland GAIA, the Ultra Novation, some Korgs, classic Moog's etc.. but I ended up keeping the Polar TI2. It has so many voices. I also used some of the most popular VST synths (Massive, Sylenth etc...) but, they just can't get 'that' sound. Plus, if you are a knobs and dials, hands-on kind of person looking to spend less time with a mouse and computer screen/daw, a physical synth will do that for you. Speaking of which, the Virus TI2 Polar software integrates amazingly well with Logic as a plug in. I have this synth paired with a Dave Smith Tempest (analog drum machine) and I feel like I can do anything. From deep bass lines, techno leads, dance chords, strings, you name it. If your thing is EDM dance and electro stuff like, Deadmaus, Benny Benassi, Steve Aoki, Avicci, Hardwell and the other 'top' pop dance producers, you'd be pleased to know these artists have TI synth somewhere in their arsenal. I know for sure this is not the only genre this synthesizer is suited for. Do I sound happy? =) Did I wait 5 months before posting a review? Yes!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
