State-of-the-art analog modeling and multi-band vocoding are available in a compact, portable instrument. With 37 keys and 128 user-rewritable programs, the microKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder is perfect for the performer, producer, computer musician or beginner looking for an affordable synthesizer. The microKORG delivers the quality sounds and features you expect from Korg at a price that will astound you.

The microKORG boasts the same dual-oscillator DSP synthesis engine found in Korgs critically acclaimed MS2000 and offers a wider selection of waveforms than any other modeled synth. Oscillator 1 features a total of 71 waveforms . These include traditional analog waves like saw, pulse, sine and noise, plus more unique choices like Vox wave and cross wave. Together they provide a cool selection that can be modulated to produce an extensive range of timbres. In addition, 64 exclusive DWGS waveforms from Korgs classic DW-8000 enable the microKORG to reproduce a broad collection of imitative sounds. Sounds like bells, electric pianos, guitars, basses and more that would be difficult reproduce on an analog synthesizer. You can also apply Ring and Sync modulation from Oscillator 2 to create the kind of complex timbres that are the true sign of an advanced synthesizer.

Four filter modes are available, offering -12 dB (2-pole) low pass, high pass and band pass configurations plus an extra steep -24 dB (4-pole) low pass setting. All include resonance. Two classic ADSR envelope generators and two MIDI-syncable LFOs provide the power to shape your sounds. Add a Virtual Patch matrix that lets you create advanced modulation settings routing the Mod Wheel to control filter cutoff or pulse width, using an LFO to control panning or amp level, etc. and you have performance that is unheard of from a synthesizer in this price range!

I've owned this little synth for two weeks. I bought it to round out my Microsampler and Microkorg XL. It is very solidly built and easy to program, with everything laid out on the front panel. The presets are a little dated, sort of in an early 2000s "electro" way. But beginners will like them and making your own sounds with this synth is easy anyway. The polyphony is only 4 voices and the step arpeggiator can't keep a consistent pulse (doesn't play steady 16th notes) with extreme program settings. The sound also develops latency between the timbres when you go into layer mode and start pushing the limits of what this synth can do. Just an old processor I guess. However the best part of this synth is the digital waveforms selectable for OSC 1. There are 64 and this really makes the synth worthwhile and versatile. It can produce some fat analog tones! Doing some A/B testing with the XL was interesting. The XL sounded crisper and punchier with identical settings. Plus you get 8 voice polyphony. I'd recommend the XL (or any soft synth) if you're going for sound quality and features but the Microkorg is much easier to program and sure to be a classic in spite of its quirks. Grab one while you still can!

Bought a Microkorg a few years ago and have gotten a lot out of it. Great for deep basses, chiptune sounds, noisey leads, and more. Built in FX are decent. I actually don't mind the smaller keys. I have created more sounds that I like and ended up using on this inexpensive synth than I have on my more expensive Moog and DSI synths.

The microKORG is a staple in any home musician's arsenal of instruments, and for a good reason. It has the image of being a cheap synthesizer for beginners, which is both an unfair and accurate summary of the product. Overall; you will not find something like this at a similar price point that combines incredible sound and ease of use. Pros: -Great way to learn about synthesizers, as the editing grid printed on the microKORG lets you know what you are editing. Some see this as annoying, but it isn't nearly as annoying as going through menus. -Customizable patches that can be saved, either made on the synth or on a PC. -The option for real time editing. -Good layout. Arpeggiator, octave buttons, and other knobs are placed in a way that makes sense. I never feel trapped by the interface. -Flexible for almost any type of music. -Tones are very good. From stabs, smooth pads, soaring leads and powerful bass, there's not much you can't do. -Portable and is able to be battery operated. -Vocoder is incredible and sounds as such. -Very good value. -An odd plus is that the manual is extremely helpful for beginners. Cons: -While it does not feel fragile, the build quality could definitely be better. -A pretty big one for me; four note polyphony. You're not going to be playing thick chords by any means. -Not the greatest feeling keys, and many don't like the size of them (I personally don't mind). -While experienced users may enjoy this synth, some may not feel like they're getting a lot of the options they are used to. Bottom line: A good and powerful synthesizer/vocoder for what it has to offer. Perfect for beginners and interesting to own and tweak for experts. The features are top-notch and the sound is incredible.

I am not very experienced with synths, so I decided to get one that was fairly affordable with little learning curve. The Microkorg has been perfect so far! The presets do sound kind of cheesy (which happens to be perfect for my uses), but if you don't like them you can easily edit the presets. The build quality doesn't feel entirely solid so I would be careful handling it. It looks as cheesy as it sounds which, again, I think is what makes it charming. While the keys are small, I'm not going to hold that against this product; I think it is to be expected for its compact size. Overall, the Microkorg may not be for everyone in that the sounds may not be what you want, but its applications spread fairly wide. 9/10 only because the build quality could be better.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
