Adam Granger a autopublié la première édition de « Granger’s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar » en 1979. Une deuxième édition a été publiée en 1994. Aujourd’hui, Mel Bay Publications présente la troisième édition de ce livre.

Cet ouvrage de 236 pages est la collection la plus complète et la mieux documentée d’airs de violon pour les guitaristes au jeu de type « flatpicking » qui existe. Il comprend des airs de reel, de danse folklorique, d’arlepape, de ragtime, de breakdown, de gigue et de slip-jig, présentés dans les styles du Sud, du Nord, de l’Irlande, du Canada, du Texas ainsi que d’époque. 508 airs de violon sont référencés sous 2500 titres et titres alternatifs. Les titres sont entièrement indexés, ce qui rend le livre doublement précieux en tant qu’ouvrage de référence et de source.

Dans cette nouvelle édition, tous les airs sont dactylographiés au lieu d’être écrits à la main, comme dans les éditions précédentes, ce qui rend les tablatures plus faciles à lire. Les airs de « Granger’s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar » sont présentés en tablatures faciles, un système de notation simplifié conçu par Adam spécifiquement pour les airs de violon. Le livre est accompagné d’un lien qui donne accès à des enregistrements MP3 par Adam des 508 airs, chacun étant joué une fois à un tempo modéré, avec la partie rythmique sur un canal et la mélodie sur l’autre. Il contient également des instructions pour la lecture des tablatures faciles, des descriptions des types d’airs présentés dans le livre et des abécédaires sur le jeu « flatpicking » traditionnel et la guitare rythmique. De plus, il y a des sections sur le tempo, l’ornementation, la technique et le doigté, ainsi que des informations sur les sources des airs et un historique de la collection.

Mel Bay propose également « The Granger Collection » de Bill Nicholson, les mêmes 508 airs en notation musicale standard.
