Appelé à l’origine « Custom Custom Custom », le micro humbucker Custom 5 à sortie élevée a vu le jour dans le Custom Shop de Seymour Duncan en réponse à des guitaristes qui demandaient une version à aimants en alnico 5 plus claire du célèbre humbucker « Custom Custom ». Il possède une belle sonorité pleine, des médiums creusés et un bon équilibre entre les basses et les aigus. Cette réponse uniforme le rend extrêmement polyvalent et idéal pour tous les types de musique et de styles de jeu.
Associez le Custom 5 avec les humbucker en position manche de modèle 59 ou Jazz pour une configuration parfaitement équilibrée. Fabriqués à la main dans l’usine de Santa Barbara, Californie, les micros humbucker Custom 5 utilisent un barreau aimanté en alnico 5, une plaque inférieure en maillechort, un fil conducteur à 4 conducteurs pour de multiples options de câblage et sont enrobés de cire sous vide pour des performances sans grincement.

As most know, the Seymour Duncan JB Model bridge pickup is the most common classic pickup used as a stock pickup or replacement. With my ear there was always a bit too much gain and midrange when paired with a 59 in the neck. I had used the Duncan Distortion (SH6) in a Jackson before and it still had the same level of gain but less pronounced midrange. Still did not quite match the warmth of the 59 neck pickup.
I then got into Y&Ts Dave Meniketti who exclusively used the Custom 5(SH14) in his Les Paul with a Jazz in the neck. The Jazz is similar to the 59. He had a really good singing lead tone live and used his bridge pickup far more than the neck to solo. He also played with the pickup covers off like Slash as it reduces the treble a little. I decided to get the Custom in place of the JB in the bridge and could not be happier with the blend with the Jazz in the neck. You typically need a fairly hot pickup in the bridge of any humbucker guitar and sometimes the gain can be too great for the neck pickup. The Custom has slightly lower gain, more bass and better note clarity and seems better matched to the Jazz and quite possibly the 59 in the neck. I put the Custom and jazz in my SG to replace Gibson Burstbuckers and could not be more pleased.
