In addition to his songs, symphonies and sonatas, Franz Schubert also wrote numerous dances that can be described as light music. Their character ranges from exuberant joy-of-life and play, to melancholic, romantic depth of expression.

These pieces are occasional works that were mostly created spontaneously in a social gathering, which confirms the statement of a friend of Franz Schubert: Schubert "sometimes attended house balls in familiar family circles; he never danced, but was always ready to sit down at the piano, where he spent hours improvising the most beautiful waltzes; He repeated the ones he liked in order to keep them and write them down afterwards. These arrangements for three flutes correspond to the character of the music, as the sound of these instruments fits particularly well with the music of the early Romantic period.
