"Idomeneo" (KV 366), first performed on January 29, 1781 in the Cuvillies Theater in Munich, is Mozart's second opera for the Munich court after the opera buffa "La finta giardiniera" from 1775. The opera material (Idomenee by Antoine Danchet) and its transformation into a libretto were recorded in a written instruction, the unfortunately lost Plan, as it is called in the correspondence between father and son.

The Baerenreiter piano reduction contains the cuts and changes in the appendix on the occasion of the premiere in Munich and the Vienna revision in 1786.

Suggestions for cadenzas or for embellishing fermatas in the singing parts are given as footnotes.
