I have had a Daphne Blue Squier Bullet 10 or so years. For its price point, if you are choosy in looking over the Bullets in the store, you can go home with a great guitar. Cons: Poor tuners, poorly shielded, the nut and the pots and wiring could be better. It has a basswood body which can be dented more easily than ash or alder but that is true of basswood Suhrs, Charvels and Ibanezs too. Inspect them for their fretwork. Pros: Sounds great, mine has great frets and is light and the most resonant stratocaster I own. I have had vintage fenders and gibsons, PRSs and steinbergers. I think guitars are often good for getting a particular sound due to their particular combination of parts regardless of price. This guitar combines a slightly smaller basswood body with some really cheap loud ceramic single coils. These pickups are louder and have stronger low mids than the Fralin Blues pickups I have in my more expensive strat ... and it is just the ticket for me. I love singlecoils but I like Larry Carlton and Robben Ford rather than Buddy Holly. This combination accentuates low mids and so sounds a bit more modern. I took the Squier off the headstock so people would stop giving me a hard time at recording sessions and they love the way it records. i get fantastic sustain out of it both amplified and unamplified. Bullets are uneven in their quality so you may have to look over all the guitars in the store to get one without sharp fret ends and stuff. but if you find a good one they can be a fantastic guitar. Studio great Jack Pearson plays a pretty much stock Bullet and you will never hear a guy get better sustain out of a guitar than him.

For the price, a bullet is hard to beat. There are several weaknesses such as the electronics, tuners and trem, but for the casual player plunking away tunes on their home amp, traveller who doesn't want to take their $1000+ strat with them, or tinkerer who wants a solid base to start with, this fits the bill to a T. As noted, while some of the components are weak, the guitar itself is solid. Much nicer and thicker neck than the pricier affinities. Do make sure you try out several guitars if possible. The fretwork varies considerably. I got one with good fretwork, but there were plenty where a riff would leave you bleeding. The only other complaint I have is with the set-up. This isn't directed at L&M, but all guitar shops. The lower end guitars are just thrown up on hooks and wait for a buyer. Mine took some adjustments for the action, leveling the bridge, intonation, and pickup height adjustment. Not a lot for someone who knows what they're doing, but for a newbie, they may end up quickly disappointed thinking the guitar is crappy when in fact it's the set-up. Stores should consider this and spend more time setting up these lower end guitars to encourage more people to stick with playing and buy the higher end guitar down the road.

I bought this guitar for my girlfriend. I have been playing for about 18 years tought for over 5 and played lots and lots of guitars. If you are looking to start playing and don't want to thin out your wallet to much this is the guitar to get.

Bought this for my daughters first guitar. Great action and easy to play. The neck is surprisingly very good. Stays in tune OK. The pickups are muddy sounding but what do you want for $125.00

Not the best beginner guitar around...

This guitar is poorly constructed! Tremolo springs were completely staggered and improperly screwed in when I first tried to use the tremolo. The whammy arm felt too stiff, the arm itself broke in a matter of seconds. I don't use it anymore. Single-coil pickups also buzz heavily with distortion. Wood quality is also the worst; rosewood fingerboard feels too dry for my taste. For beginners, I highly recommend that they spend at least a few more bucks for a better guitar.

Ditto many of the previous. C'mon, how can you go wrong at this price? Got it with a GEOdec amp package. ( Ps. my son dropped it, and it still sounds fine!)

These get a bad reputation because of more pretentious, "elite" players who compare them to Gibsons or $1000+ Fenders but they really are good for a new player or someone who is just toying with the idea of playing guitar. If you want high quality sound and a longer lasting instrument it's probably a good idea to get new pickups and tuners(which might give you something better than a Mexican Stratocaster for a lower cost), but the store employees can set it up for you to get started with a comfortable enough instrument. Even experienced players can have fun with these if they like customizing instruments or want to paint their own guitar. At the end of the day the price for these guitars is completely justified and you get your money's worth. Can't say the same about some of the higher end guitars available today.

this guitar is for beginners. It is good for the price, but it's nothing special. It's good if it's your first electric.

my school has this guitar for music class and i play the electric guitar and i use this guitar. the guitar doesn't really go good with the distortion on most amps. though the fret board/neck isn't to bad but on some of them the strings are to close to the neck and doesn't sound as good as it should be. Overall it's still a good guitar just needs some twinking up that's all.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
