Franz Anton Hoffmeister was born in Rotenburg on the Neckar in 1754, two years before Mozart, and died in Vienna, where he spent most of his life, in 1812. His style follows closely that of his great contemporary, and the present Concerto, an enchanting work, could almost have been written by Mozart. The manuscript is in the Saxon State Library in Dresden.
