D'Addario Flat Tops are round wound, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." This produces a smooth, flattened playing surface, but does not sacrifice the superb tone and sustain associated with phosphor bronze strings. Flat Tops greatly reduce finger noise and are excellent for recording and flatpicking.

A very sweet smooth string, great for playing Rag time and Blues.
They have a very good feel to them with little noise going up and the Fret board compared to standard round wound strings.
There not quite as bright or as loud as a Elixir Nanoweb in the same gauge set.
Very worth while to give them a try if you like doing a little string bending lead breaks.

I was really curious about these strings just cause the flat top causes less noice when moving around the fret board. And I have to say I am impressed very smooth feel with great tone. I was worried the may sound a little flat by my god they are anything but. Beautiful notes ring clear and chime and chords project beautifully. A little high on the price tag compared to conventional acoustic strings so I don't know if the flat are worth the hefty tag but time will tell seeing how long they last but so far one of the nicest sounding set of strings I've ever used. With almost no noise!!!

I use these strings after I snapped one of the stock ones, and I was very surprised because of how much better they sound! I would buy these again in a heartbeat.
