D'Addario EJ70 strings are designed for mandolins requiring ball end strings. Each string has a ball end instead of a loop end. The plain strings are plain steel and the wound strings are Phosphor Bronze, known for it's warm and bright acoustic tone.

A 1968 Hofner mahogany mandolin requires ball end strings. An A style with a larger body. These strings make it easier to fret being slightly thinner on the wound G D, but do not give up any bass or tonality. A pleasure to play. I feel the ball end actually gives a bit more support to the string going around the ball compared to being stretched out over a hook end. Plus you can use guitar strings of various thicknesses as well as they have ball ends. Makes for more choices. I always keep a pair of guitar 11 & 15 strings on hand. Some of the cast tailpieces allow you to use ball or hook end strings. Makes string changing even easier with a ball as hooks can have the strings really get wedged into those tight spaces,

These are awesome, why aren't there any in Edmonton. Also if anyone owns an Ovation Mandolin - ball end strings are required.
