The HX is a single coil pickup built into a humbucker housing. The HX features a ceramic magnet with a wide frequency response for clarity, bright tone, and a rich blend of harmonics. This pickup is an excellent choice for rhythm guitarists who need added definition for chording, or for lead work when the crisp attack of a single coil pickup is desired. The solderless installation makes this pickup easy to install at home.

The X series preamp gives the pickup a more dynamic range along with increased headroom while keeping the more traditional string-to-string balance. X series pickups also come with an Active Tone Control (VLPF) designed to roll-off (attenuate) high frequencies, similar to a typical passive tone control. The result is a noiseless single coil guitar pickup with a classic EMG sound that bridges the gap between active and passive.
