After having these five years I suddenly thought i caught some sibilance but after doing some testing realized it wasn’t the headset. So, yes, they’ve stood up in performance.
I still enjoy the great separation these deliver. Probably the high point for me.
However the headband is badly deteriorated and the flakes show up in my hair and all over the floor. I’m looking at the available mods but it seems that in order to successfully replace the headband i’d need to be able to solder. That’s above my ability.
So unfortunately for now I continue to enjoy the wonderful sound with an increasingly ugly product.
I did replace the ear pads. You should too.
The stock ear pads were cheap and get uncomfortable quickly.
I will say that i have smaller ears so i’ve no trouble with that element of the sizing but if you have large ears i’d suggest you try some on before you buy, if you can.
After long listening sessions i can say that i’m very pleased they are not heavy, although for my melon there is a bit of clamping that forces me to readjust from time to time.

When I first got these, they seemed well built. But one year later, the faux leather cups and head support deteriorated. They still work and sound good, but are losing all the material and look terrible. I take extremely good care of my sound gear. My AKG K240s are about 12 years old and still look as good as the day I purchased them.
I recommend reconsidering Audio-Technica headphones.

This is the third time that I have to repair these headphones!! Why? Why? Why? Why, did a company as knowable as Audio-Technica design a pair of headphones that prone to failure?
This is the three time now, I have had to have these headphones repairs. I am DONE with Audio-Technica!!
So, save your money with AT, and buy something else!!

Purchased these to use for vocal monitoring. Extremely comfortable for short to medium durations. These do start to hurt a bit after a few hours. Sound is true and hasn't been blown up with unnecessary bass. Extremely happy and would suggest these over some of the other offerings.

Here's what happened to The Audio Technica headphones I owned for 4 months. I pulled the 3.5mm jack out of the phone and the tip remained in the phone. The tip of a 3.5mm jack is the left channel. The headphones come with two cables, so I used the second cable. The second cable is brand new , unused, and the tip came off in less than a week. Audio Technica was contacted and completely ignored me. You've been warned. I will never buy another Audio Technica product.

I really like the fitting of the headphone as it does not irritate my ears after wearing it for a long time. The sound quality is excellent. The foldability of the headphone makes it easy to store especially for travelling. Good pricing for such a great headphone!

Audio-Technica ATH-M40X are excellent studio monitor headphones - surprisingly better than much higher price point studio quality headphone models.
I own them, and am using them in a professional recording environment. They very effectively capture flat full spectrum for detailed studio monitoring.

I have the M50's and love them. I saw the new Lineup at L&M and decided to try them all in store. they are all great. But these sounded best with the ipod nano thats in the display as the they are only 35 ohms. Also they are lighter than My M50's. Got them for $109. I think they were on sale as now they are posted to be $130 now. but a still great choice.
