CEDAR Dethump eliminates pronounced low-frequency noise ("thumps") that conventional declicking processes and filters cannot remove. Replacing the unwanted noise with restored low-frequency audio, the plug-in is the ideal tool for correcting many previously intractable problems found on optical soundtracks, cylinders, 78 rpm records, and even modern recordings-for example, when microphones or stands are bumped.

Thumps can last for many hundreds of milliseconds, making conventional declicking techniques unsuitable for restoring such audio signals. Furthermore, the spectral content of thumps often overlaps with the original signal, so simple filters cannot remove them without affecting the original signal.

CEDAR Dethump eliminates low-frequency noise with a duration of up to 100,000 samples. The system allows the user to identify the audio signals that make up the thump and uses data from the immediate environment to create a picture of what the low-frequency signal would have sounded like without the thump.

CEDAR Dethump then replaces the thump with restored low-frequency audio, leaving the undamaged high-frequency components untouched.
