Since its release in 2013, Novation Bass Station II has cemented itself as a modern classic in analogue synthesis. A staple in studios and live setups for over a decade, it delivers deep sound design capabilities, raw character, and unbeatable value. Now, this modern classic gets a bold new look, courtesy of Ian "Swifty" Swift - the visionary designer behind the unmistakable aesthetics of Mo' Wax, Straight No Chaser, and many more; a key figure in the evolution of the visual identity of UK hip-hop, jazz, and street music culture.

This limited-edition Bass Station II features Swifty's signature typography, custom-printed panels, and graphic motifs inspired by rave flyers, dubplate culture, and DIY zines - bringing underground attitude to a synth that has been a driving force in electronic music for over a decade.

Equally at home on stage and in the studio, Bass Station II can sound as warm and mellow or aggressive and hard as you want it to; modulate the filter to make it sing, crank the distortion to toughen up the bass, and push the resonance into self-oscillation to get those lead lines screaming.

With two tuneable oscillators plus a sub-oscillator for enhancing the all-important low end, Bass Station II more than delivers when it comes to generating raw, analogue tones. There's also a noise source, PWM, ring modulation, two distinct analogue filter types, and plenty of modulation in the shape of two LFOs and a pair of ADSR envelopes for added tonal-shaping options.

With a powerful collection of controls intuitively laid out at your fingertips, Bass Station II encourages deep sonic exploration via a fluid and fun workflow. Created a sound you love? Save it in one of the 64 user preset slots.

Bass Station II comes pre-loaded with 64 diverse preset patches, each designed to show off different aspects of its sonic flexibility. Looking for some fresh inspiration? Head over to Components, where you'll find a wide selection of artist presets to download for free. Components also acts as Bass Station II's software librarian, allowing you to manage all your patches from one convenient interface.

To celebrate the launch of this special edition of Bass Station II, Novation has curated a selection of exclusive new presets from some of their favourite artists of the moment. Explore a host of fresh sounds from Dutch techno icon Legowelt, alt-pop duo Pecq, and virtuoso keys player Maria Chiara Argiro.

When you need instant melodic inspiration, Bass Station II's pattern-based arpeggiator and step sequencer are ready to roll. Record your own patterns into the sequencer in real time, then store them for use with any patch. Sequences and arpeggios automatically sync to your connected music software or MIDI hardware, and swing values are easy to dial in precisely via a simple shortcut.

Bass Station II includes everything you need to connect to your music software and MIDI-capable hardware. You get 5-pin MIDI In and Out for external synths, controllers, and sequencers; a sustain pedal input; an external audio input for routing other sounds through the analogue filter and effects; and a dedicated headphone output. Bass Station II can be powered via USB and is also class compliant, meaning it requires no drivers for USB MIDI functionality.

Bass Station II is a paraphonic synth allowing you to play two notes at a time rather than just one. Try playing with Ring Mode, Oscillator Sync, and the Filter Mod to discover wild, new overtones.

Realised together with electronic music legend Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin, AFX Mode allows you to load a different patch to each key. Load subtly different patches to each key for instant variation or assign wildly different sounds across the keyboard. You can even create entire drum kits to play beats using the keys or via the Arpeggiator.

The Components content manager allows you to backup and restore your patches and AFX Overlays from your Bass Station II. It also gives you the ability to upload third-party tuning tables, personalize your start-up message, and more.

Features

Created in collaboration with Ian "Swifty" Swift - If you don't know Swifty, you'll certainly know his work. The graphic designer behind some of the most influential record labels and magazines in British music history has crafted this unique, limited blue-and-white edition of an iconic British synthesiser.
Two powerful analogue oscillators - Bass Station II's true-analogue signal path features two tuneable, syncable analogue oscillators each offering four waveforms: sine, triangle, sawtooth, square, and a sub-oscillator. The mixer section allows you to blend in external audio inputs, noise, and ring modulation.
Extensive analogue filter section - Bass Station II includes two characterful analogue filters, controllable via an extra-large cutoff knob. The Classic Filter is a state-variable filter, switchable between high-pass, low-pass and band-pass modes with a 12 or 24 dB per octave slope, while the Acid Filter is a dedicated 24 dB per octave low-pass filter perfect for dark, squelchy basslines.
Overdrive, distortion, and more
Go all the way from ambient to aggressive with a pre-filter analogue overdrive and a dedicated post-filter distortion control in Bass Station II's effects section.
Flexible modulation - Bass Station II's two LFOs offer triangle, sawtooth, and square waveforms, along with sample and hold. You also get two flexible ADSR envelopes. Pulse-width modulation can be shaped via a dedicated knob, an LFO, or a modulation envelope. Plus, modulate the filter from OSC 2 for classic analogue FM tones.
Powerful step sequencer and arpeggiator - Perform notes, ties, rests, and rhythms in real time using the step sequencer and arpeggiator, then store them for use with any patch.
Made to be played - Bass Station II features 25 full-size synth-action keys with portamento, glide, and assignable aftertouch. The front panel is clearly arranged and labelled for intuitive patch design and sound editing.
New artist patches - Bass Station II Swifty Edition comes complete with 60 brand-new sounds from Dutch techno icon Legowelt, alt-pop duo Pecq, and virtuoso keys player Maria Chiara Argiro.
Extensive patch storage - With 64 factory patches pre-installed and space for 64 more of your own, Bass Station II makes it easy to create, save, and recall your favourite sounds.
Paraphonic Mode - Bass Station II allows you to control the pitches of each oscillator separately and play two notes at a time instead of one. Try applying ring or filter mod to add even more character to your sound design.
AFX Mode - Realised together with electronic music legend Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin, AFX Mode allows you to load different sounds to each key on the keyboard. Use it for everything from subtle sonic variation to wildly different sounds for every note or entire analogue drum kits that can be triggered manually or via the Arpeggiator.
Hardware and software connectivity - Bass Station II includes all the connections you need to interface seamlessly with the rest of your studio, including 5-pin MIDI In and Out; sustain pedal input; a dedicated headphone socket; and USB connectivity for MIDI control with your DAW, bus power, transferring patches, and updating firmware.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
