Well, originally I made the newbie mistake of buying a “cheap” Arsha hand pan (machine made in Iran), even though $900 really isn’t peanuts. Luckily, that hand pan had some defects and I was able to return it to the local seller and get a full refund. I managed to get together more funds (by selling my Shambhala Music Festival tickets, IYKYK) to get a PeacePan crafted by Luc Dupuis through L&M. And for that, I could not be more grateful. Luc and I had become acquainted online a number of months ago in some of the hand pan FB groups. As far as I know he is 1 of only 2 hand pan makers in all of Canada. And while I didn’t originally buy his hand pan, he was very excited for me to get my first instrument! He offered friendly advice and tips. He was very open and encouraging and supportive in the posts I made of my progress in the whopping 10 days I had “the other pan.” His passion for the instrument, the music and community is so evident in how he welcomes new folks to the community. That really left an impression on me. He never pressured me into buying his product or judged/shamed me for buying a cheaper instrument (which is sadly common in the pan community from what I’ve seen online). He just wanted to see me start playing and enjoying myself! I ordered my PeacePan which arrived at Long McQuade in about 14 days, as it had to come from Ontario to BC. The first thing I noticed was that the bag was so thoughtfully made. It is a well constructed soft case with a rainproof cover attached in its own little bag. It is nicely padded inside and in the shoulder and back area. There is also a chest strap clip to disperse the weight, which is really helpful as someone who needs back surgery. Upon taking out my pan, I was really taken aback by how much it seemed to sparkle and shine! The “gold swirl” finish really radiates and reflects light in a beautiful, gentle way. Now let’s talk about the sound! I cannot tell you how beautifully resonant, rich and vibrant it sounds compared to the other one, that sounded like you were slapping a tuna can lol The sustain on it is so long and so soothing when I hit the ding. It lasts over 10 seconds and for example, the tuna can only lasted for one second. But my new PeacePan wowza! It takes so little pressure to get gorgeous sound. My hands don’t hurt, I don’t feel as discouraged as it sounds lovely all the time. Striking my PeacePan is so much easier and effortless. The steel is really fantastic quality. It is light, punchy and clean when you hit a tone field. The sound rings out clearly and the tuning is absolutely perfect. My hands don’t hurt on this pan and I have played it obsessively the 7 days I’ve had it! Like 4+ hours a day. The quality that you get for the price of this instrument is really outstanding. I’ve raved so much about it, I have a family member who’s going to be buying one soon. And while this is considered an entry-level instrument, you would never ever guess that’s the case when you hear it. It is truly magical. You can tell this beautiful instrument was meticulously handcrafted with so much expertise, intention and passion. Luc is such a kind, caring and masterful crafter. I cannot recommend him or his pans enough. Do not hesitate, get your PeacePan today! It will be the best decision you’ve made in a long time. The CanPan is meticulously hand made, the materials are much higher quality, and the sound is out of this world! The cheaper Arsha Hand pan was a lot harder to get sound out of as it was thick cheap metal. My hands hurt a lot after playing.

I've been a drummer for 15 years and in that time I have owned a good number of hand drums but nothing compared to the delight I first felt playing a handpan. The first time I was exposed to a handpan I fell in love, but at a price of around 4000 CAD it eventually became a bit of a pipe dream for me. That was until Long and Mcquades featured CanPans in a series of videos. After doing some research it became clear that a CanPan was undoubtedly was the absolute best value for anyone interested in handpans. With PeacePans, you are not dealing with a corporation. You are dealing with a singular artisan, one who I may add is a master of thier craft. Luc personally guarantees a lifetime tuning warranty which alone is worth it's weight in gold. But on top of that, you are directly supporting a deeply passionate local artisan that will happily guide you on your handpan journey. If that wasn't enough, this is one of the most afforable handpans on the market and it sounds like an absolute DREAM. The swirl model in particular is gorgeous. So if you're like me and always wanted a handpan, there's no better value than a CanPan, and there's no better person to deal with than Luc at PeacePan. So if you're reading this, pull the trigger and you won't regret it! Although if you have any hesitations, please reach out to Luc directly and you'll see why this is a no brainer!!

The craftsmanship and appearance of this instrument is stellar. The tone and sustain is beautiful for each note 🎵. I’d recommend this Handpan to everyone from beginner to advanced musicians. The experience I found playing it can range from really fun to meditative, depending on my mood.
Luc (the craftsman) is very open and helpful if you inquires or need lessons. Deep peace and equanimity.🙏

If like me you’re considering this handpan vs the many others on the market, don’t hesitate any more. Just buy this one. I’m a longtime drummer, percussionist, composer, and sound designer and bought this to use in a recording environment both to make music and as a sound design tool. The instrument itself is sonorous and embodies the best qualities of what handpans should be. It’s a real joy to play. I reached out to Luc both before and after the sale with questions. You will not find a more enthusiastic, friendly, passionate and knowledgeable instrument maker. He was incredibly helpful. If you have any questions, I encourage you to reach out to him. He was really wonderful to deal with. As I said, if you’re hemming and hawing, stop. Buy this one. You won’t regret it. It’s wonderful.

I play handpan professionally and I must have played over 100 handpans in my travels and I'm very impressed with the sound of the CanPan. The tone is bright and clear. It's very stable, I can play quite intensely and it's never buckles or goes out of tune. Plus the colour and finish is beautiful. It's great to have an affordable, high quality Canadian handpan!

Hands down, this line is the best introduction to pan on the market. After 5 years of playing, it’s hard to find something affordable for new students who are unable to mortgage a house to try a new instrument. The Peace pan CanPan will always be my go to recommendation. I love my D Minor Swirl!

This is my 3rd Hangdrum that I have bought from Peacepans and as per usual, the quality is amazing. The resonance that comes off the notes are spellbinding and highly intoxicating to the ears. I've heard a lot of different hangdrums over the years and his craftsmanship rivals those from Europe. Will be playing this midrange offering and eventually will get the Top O' the Line in the near future! Cheers!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
