This driving salsa chart is sure to be a hit not only with the band, but with the audience as well. The infectious groove, the solid ensemble writing and the catchy melody all combine to create a perfect chart for your next program. And the Jazz Foundations scoring guarantees that the chart will work with virtually any instrumentation.

The foundation to a successful performance of Hot Salsa Cafe lies in the groove created by the rhythm section. The even eighth note salsa groove should have a strong drive to it throughout the chart.

All players should closely observe all articulation markings. Singing the melody is a great way to help students gain a grasp of the articulations. The horn players need to be aware of playing with a strong sense of time so that they really lock in with the rhythm section.

The solo section at bar 49 may be opened up. Improvisation should be encouraged, but written solos are provided. Backgrounds may be played as desired and should be cued.

The horns and the drums takes over following the solo section. Again, articulations are a key element to a successful performance.
