These aren't for everyone. I played a stock ric 4003 for years, sold it and regretted the sale. I missed the neck and the tone. This time I knew exactly what I wanted. Dropped in a hipshot bridge due to the original tail lift, tossed the awkward pickup cover, threw in a treble bezel, and swapped out the bakelite nut for one made out of bone for a little more sustain on the open notes. A couple of Joe Barden pickups to cancel the hum... and geez, I pretty much gutted the whole darn thing. What can I say? It totally rips now. Really just toss the pickup cover and swap the bridge, you'll be happy you did. The neck radius on the 4003's varies ever so slightly from year to year. Try before you buy when possible.

I am a Fender guy who wanted to try something different and this bass provided just that. It has proven to be the best sounding bass that I have. I use both Traynor and Ampeg gear and the quality from both setups is awesome. When I ordered this bass, I was expecting a 6 month wait but the guys at the Dartmouth store managed to get it in within a month. Not only does this bass sound incredible, it looks awesome as well!
