These aren't the sort of thing one gets excited about; however, they are absolutely essential for protecting expensive cymbals. They prevent metal-to-metal contact and (when used with felts) help prevent damage to your cymbals. I always have several extras on hand in case I lose one or in case they wear out. (Always check to make sure that these flange/sleeves haven't worn through. They don't last forever.) It costs far less to replace one of these sleeves than it does to replace a damaged cymbal.
