Description

The ASM Diosynth is a highly expressive instrument that combines a deep synthesis engine with a sample playback engine, offering the best of acoustic and electronic sounds. Designed with wind players in mind, Diosynth features mechanical keys that replicate the feel of real sax and wind instruments - avoiding the flat button-style controls found on other wind synths. Multiple fingering modes, scale/key locking, and octave keys covering over eight octaves provide a familiar and versatile playing experience.

For expression, Diosynth includes breath and bite sensors, an internal gyro, X/Y joystick, two pressure pads, and three programmable switches. It ships with 384 patches and supports a total of 768 patch locations, covering everything from traditional wind instruments such as saxophones, trumpets, and flutes to synth leads, basses, and tempo-synced, layered synth textures. The sound engine is based on ASM's renowned Hydrasynth with the addition of a new sample playback oscillator, giving Diosynth endless possibilities for sound creation and design.

Users can blend realistic acoustic instruments - like a Harmon-muted trumpet or Peruvian bamboo flute - with Hydrasynth's wavescan oscillators and process them through the 16-mode filter to create rich hybrid tones. ASM has meticulously sampled 128 unique reed, brass, fipple, and string-based sounds. Rare and exotic instruments are also included, like the contrabass Flute, Eb Tubax, and Peruvian llama whistle. Having one sound like this would be amazing enough but you can layer or split two distinct parts, combining up to four Hydrasynth oscillators and two sample-based voices simultaneously. Connectivity features include 1/4" stereo output, 1/8" headphone jack with dedicated volume, MIDI DIN In/Out, USB MIDI & Audio I/O, Bluetooth MIDI, and Bluetooth audio-in for playing along with music streams. Users can listen via the built-in speaker or headphones.

Diosynth is powered by the included USB-C adaptor or via two 18650 rechargeable batteries (not included). A Mac/PC editor and iOS/Android app simplify patch editing and live performance use. Each unit ships gig-ready in a hard-shell case with all required cables and accessories.

Product Experience   I own it

I mostly wanted something to play without driving my neighbours crazy. While there are less expensive options, like the Yamaha YDS-120 or YDS-150, the Diosynth is in a different league. It also has a bite sensor (reed) the others lack - a nice bonus.
I don't consider this a sax replacement. Nothing can really do that. I consider it a full-on electronic instrument powered by the same engine as the Hydrasynth. As an acoustic sax player, none of the sax sounds thrill me. All the OTHER sounds are awesome! Even adding some synth FX to the sax sounds transforms them nicely. The YDS-120 & 150 have it beat with true sax-style keys, but these are so close that I adapted very quickly. At first I missed the feel of actual palm keys, but that faded fast. Again, it's not a sax, but it is an instrument that sax players can play and enjoy right away.
My criticisms are minor: the key pearls are a little small, but the key action is great and very responsive. I wish it had rollers for the spatula pinky keys. I can pretty easily slide between them as-is, but rollers would be better for fast passages. Last minor complaint: I haven't found the magic comfy angle for the adjustable thumb rest yet.
The hundreds of built-in sounds are easy to navigate, especially in "sort-by-category" mode. All can be modified as much as you like, and you can create your own. If you're not a synth-wiz, you'll still be happy with the stock ones. It comes with a surprisingly high-quality pro-level case, two mouthpieces with covers, a basic neck strap, spit scrunchie, and even a folding stand. It does NOT come with batteries. It uses a weird type and size but they're available on Amazon. You can also power it with the included USBC cable and charger. MIDI, bluetooth, USBC... it's the full-meal deal. I give it a big thumbs-up.
Huge thanks to Cole in the Vancouver store. I'm a happy camper.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
