first Urtext edition based on the Complete Edition
moderate level of difficulty facilitates access to Mendelssohn's soundscape
Mendelssohn's relationship with the violin was a special one. Although he had a profound command of this instrument and throughout his life was often heard playing the violin and even the viola, his main focus remained on his principal instrument, the piano. This edition is dedicated exclusively to Mendelssohn's early works for violin and piano from the years 1819 to 1821. They were written during Mendelssohn's composition studies with Carl Friedrich Zelter and have been handed down to us in his music books.
The five short pieces have never before been published in a printed edition. They are now available in an Urtext edition based on the Leipzig Mendelssohn Edition.
Compared to other works by Mendelssohn, they are of moderate difficulty and thus perfectly suitable for piano and violin students.
