Description
The Gibson Dove™ was first introduced in 1962 and was the second square shoulder model to be introduced by Gibson, following the introduction of the Hummingbird™ in 1960. While it shares a similar square-shoulder body shape, the Hummingbird's body is traditionally made of mahogany, whereas the Dove's body is typically made of maple. The two guitars share similar yet differing bird-themed cosmetics that have become iconic. Still, the two models have other differences, including the scale length, with the Dove's longer 25.5" scale length contributing to its brighter and punchier tone and tighter playing feel.
Now, Gibson is proud to introduce the Dove Mahogany, a new take on the classic Dove. It has all of the visual appeal that has made the model instantly recognizable to fans worldwide but uses mahogany for the back and sides instead of the usual maple, giving it a sound that combines elements of the tone of both the Dove and Hummingbird, with a more midrange-focused sound from the mahogany body paired with some of the Dove's typical brilliance and snap from the longer scale length. The Dove Mahogany is finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer, which gives it the look and smooth playing feel of a long-cherished musical companion.
The mahogany neck has a 25.5" (647.7 mm) scale length, a comfortable Round profile, and a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with a 12" fretboard radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays. The neck's compound dovetail neck-to-body joint is fitted using hot hide glue. The rosewood bridge has the traditional Dove shape and is adorned with two mother-of-pearl dove-shaped inlays. The bridge saddle and nut are bone, while the bridge pins are TUSQ®.
The tuning machines are Grover® Rotomatics® with Keystone buttons, and the headstock is also dressed up with a Gibson logo and Crown inlay, both in mother-of-pearl, and the truss rod cover is a two-ply bell with a wide white border and engraved with the word "DOVE." The pickguard also features the classic Dove shape and graphics. The Dove Mahogany comes with L.R. Baggs™ VTC electronics pre-installed, featuring volume and tone controls mounted in the soundhole for easy access by the player while remaining all but invisible to the audience.
The Dove Mahogany is here to take your music to new heights and is ready for the stage and studio from the moment you remove it from the included hardshell case.
