I had a XD for several years and upgraded to a Fender Deluxe VM which is 40 watts, it was like an XD on steroids ... not a good idea for casual playing even though it was an incredible amp The X2 is super I prefer the voice settings over the XD and the tap tempo is also a plus ... not into Fender Fuse etc I'd give the X2 perfect score but the tolex on the top shoulder seam curls and I've seen it really curl on brand new ones. Great usable sounds and effects.

Had mine for 5 years... added a Celestion Greenback and Tung-Sol tube set and wouldn't trade it for anything... 3 or 4 amps in one.

X2 has robust functional controls for onboard effect and capabilities, but is somewhat fragile for outside of studio applications. The circuit is somewhat mysterious and difficult to diagnose. Sounds ok for small venues, but looses detail when cranked, highs and bring on ice-picky qualities but farts out the low end and will get lost in the mix with an excited drummer and bass. Line out seems very noisy, but it appears there are software controls with FUSE. What FUSE actually affects in the circuit is somewhat a mystery. Always sounds better though a speaker cab, but in a PA, not sure if the line out is just the model, doesn't sound like it comes from the power amp to me, kinda sterile. I have warrantied one of these and the replacement longer functions. I have exhausted my warranty options and there doesn't appear to be a schematic/layout published. I have learned my lesson and will continue to use my restored hand wired amps for durability and ease of service. This one appears to have a malfunctioning component, looks like a JFET that is overheating, but no sound at all. If you are using at home, keep it at home as the pcb construction lacks the durability of a point to point wired amp. It is difficult to service, although I wonder if I could acquire a replacement pcb board. Sounds great through bigger speakers (2x12 JBL). Unfortunately I would not buy another because of the lack of durability. Given the opportunity i would replace the board to get another 3 years out of it. It is a good amp for the price, but I would handle it more gently, like a home computer than a fender amp.

I'd pay closer to 800 for this no problem. Sounds great for 10" speaker. On board DSP is very usable. Excellent value. Get one while you still can. Only thing I'd like is an fx loop. But the footswitch is a nice touch.

I bought this amp several years ago and changed the Tubes to JJ's and swapped the speaker to an Eminence Ragin Cajun 10" and what a difference. Every tone from Bass to Highs have lots of headroom at low volume and high. I use the clean channel & EQ through multi-effects board and this config works great especially with a pre-effects line boost and a Tube Screamer for solo's. But what's really cool is when going to Open Mic's, plug this baby in and use the Fuse programme set-ups simulating my multi-effects + (Tweed Reverb Amp Selection) and requires only a tuner pedal & power. I'm using an e903 mic, so super easy connection to PA. But the mod's made a huge difference as the Super Champ X2 Combo has so many more features than the Blues Junior and sounds more like a 20W instead of 15W. I'm asked to turn it down during rehearsal all the time to 4, so it has the loudness needed in 200-300 seater venue when at 7-8...Like to keep it lower for mic and soon getting Fender In-Ear & wireless pairing.

I honestly loved the sound of this amp but when I turned the volume up more than 3 on either channel, the grill/baffle board vibrated terribly loud. So much so I returned it. I gave another one a shot from another location and unfortunately it did the exact same thing. If you can find one that doesn't do this I would recommend it but be sure you try it in the store before you take it home.

I have the earlier version of this amp without the tap feature. I have had no problems with this amp over the past 7 years or so. Lots of great sounds and effects to colour your tone. I would replace it if lost or stolen. I preferred it over vox and line 6. Try one out.

Used this amp going on 4 years now and not a problem! Still using the same Groove Tubes that came with it and the amp just puts it out. ( I average about 25 hours of playing time at moderate volumes per week.) Great amp to mike! My only problem is the Fender Fuse software due to Windows always trying to upgrade you but the fixes are on the Web. (not Fender's fault!)

Great little amp, the predictable Fender Tube sound, plus modern digital effects . Used this Amp with a Red box in the studio, and was very pleased with the clarity .

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
