Appetite for Rock!
Slash himself helped design the Slash AFD Les Paul Special-II with an Appetite Amber finish, inspired by Slashs own custom Les Paul. The AAA flame Maple Veneer top has single layer Ivory binding while the back, sides, and neck are finished in beautiful dark Cherry just like Slashs original. Both the body and bolt-on neck are made from Mahogany, like all classic Les Pauls. The Rosewood fingerboard has dot acrylic inlays and the headstock features Slashs Snakepit logo in gold silk print along with the iconic Epiphone script logo in silver. The truss rod cover has the familiar bell shape with Les Paul Special-II in white. The die-cast machine heads (tuners) have a 14:1 ratio for quick and easy spot-on tuning.

Classic Zebra Coil Pickups
The roar of Slashs AFD Les Paul Special-II comes from Epiphones new Ceramic Plus Zebra Coil humbucker pickups modeled after the famous (and ultra rare) zebra (black and white) pickups found on late 50s Les Paul Standards, the most sought after vintage guitar on the market. The humbuckers are powered by Volume, Tone, and Toggle controls with Gold TopHat knobs with metal inserts. But unlike vintage models, the Slash AFD Les Paul also comes with a built-in Shadow E-Tuner built into the bridge pickup mounting ring. The tuner is powered by one #2032 Lithium long-lasting battery, easily accessed from a compartment on the back of the guitar.

Premium Epiphone hardware
The Slash AFD Les Paul Special-II features Epiphones premium all-metal hardware including a legendary Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece and strap buttons.

played the one they had on the wall, liked the ergonomics. bought the one still sealed in box. great kit, sounds awesome on a Fender Frontman 15g. Holds tune very well compared to the Fender Squire Ive been playing. the built in tuner is a nice touch and is pretty accurate. make sure you get a battery when you pick this up as it doesn't come with one. the picks are all pretty stiff, would be nice to have some variety, but everything else that comes in the box is great. haven't given the free lessons a try yet. the guitar is beautiful in person. well worth the price

I've been playing acoustic guitar all my life and I am looking to transition. I jammed on this at the store for a while it plays pretty smooth. I didn't get to plug it in very loud so can't vouch for the sound, but compared to the Fenders, the Squires and the SG, this guitar is giving me a tough choice especially for the price. Plus the colour is fantastic.

No sure what is one of reviewer talking about .."bridge PUP installed" crooked ??? It is by design dude ... The finish and feel of this guitar is stunning , without a blemish . Much lighter than original Les Paul , but the sound quality and playability is not any less if not better . 1 vol knob, 1 tone knob, 3 ways pickup selector ... Simple and perfect . I replaced the pickup rings with Metal cosmo flat black ring to match the tunning pegs and chromatic tunning bridge , remove the plastic around the pickup selector and I love it .. stays perfectly in tune. Forget all that "beginner" budget guitar talk .. I have half dozen guitars in $1000-$1800 range and this one has quickly become my favorite shred machine and the clean tone is also amazing . Grab one before it discontinues ...

Got this as a starter guitar for my kid. The bridge PUP was installed crooked. REALLY crooked! The overall finish is not good, but what would you expect for this price point? The guitar looks a lot better in the pics. Be warned. Giving it 2.5 stars in spite of all the above because the tone is surprisingly Les Paul like. It plays horribly though. Feels like a 1990s Sears special! So overall a mixed bag. If all you care about is tone, playability and appearance be damned, then go for it. Otherwise, save up for a proper LP.

I used to play guitar many years ago. Self taught - used song books for lyrics to my own music as I couldn't read music. Had a very cheap guitar with high action (took awhile for my fingers to stop hurting) but I loved it. Played in the basement bathroom of our house. It was huge and I had a blast. Dabbled with bass guitar and keyboards over the years. Had the most fun with bass as my friends were all way better guitar players than I was, but I had no problem laying down bass lines for our jam sessions, that were blues/rock. Now I want to get back into playing. I have the time. I have the means. I want to be able to really play. There are many ways to learn compared to before. Originally I was going to get a Gibson Les Paul and Marshall stack. After calming down, I decided I should just start out with something inexpensive and upgrade later. The choices available now are way better than before. Inexpensive guitars are made way better and small amplifiers - no comparison. So, after my way of researching things to death, in my area the Epiphone Slash AFD package was a great value (though I almost bought a new 2014 Les Paul Traditional Pro for $500). Didn't need to pick up anything else. Some of the accessories aren't great, but it's all there. I wanted a natural finish look so the AFD worked. Other packages will suit other people. So far, the quality of the guitar itself is amazing for the price point - it seems hands above the standard special plus II that the AFD seems to be based on. I purchased the guitar only and mated it with a Blackstar ID Core 10 - more than enough for my current needs. I did come across a 1 1/2 hour video of someone doing a fret job on this guitar, among numerous examples of it being played. The guitar has potential to say the least. Setup is primary on any guitar one wants to get comfortable with. I might upgrade the nut, the tuners (Grover) and some type of strap lock. Possibly a gold plated input jack. Pots and toggle switch only if needed. Pickups will stay. There is more than enough tonal setting to be reached using the multiple settings available between the guitar and the amp, for now. I'm glad I bought it. I can't wait to get better........

I own the Zakk Wylde Bullseye Les Paul and have to say the Slash AFD feels and sounds great and is a lot lighter. Great guitar for the price and sound. As a 15 year old I have an SG, B.C Rich Warlock, Jackson flying V and Ibanez gig. Each has its own sound but the Les Paul AFD is one of my favs!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
