Premiered at the 2026 Texas Music Educators convention, this unique Shuffle/Funk chart includes section features for each part of the band. Saxes, Trumpets, Trombones and the rhythm section each get a turn in the spotlight, with flexible options provided to omit any feature sections depending on your ensemble's needs. The rhythm section parts are carefully notated so students can groove from the first rehearsal.Truly a showstopper!

Program Notes
Groovezilla bursts to life with a deep, infectious groove and showcases the rhythmic precision and ensemble cohesion at the core of great Jazz playing. Written at a moderate tempo with a deep, infectious pocket, the chart centers around a syncopated rhythmic groove that serves as the foundation for bold melodic statements and driving horn section writing. Each section of the band is given a moment to shine: the Saxophones deliver punchy, riff-based lines in a tight section soli; the Trumpets respond with tasty articulative phrases; and the Trombones bring warmth and power through their own featured passage. The rhythm section propels the music with style and precision, locking in the groove while contributing dynamic fills and exchanges that keep the energy flowing.

Additionally, the title, Groovezilla, offers a playful nod to the "monster" nature of the tune-big, bold, and groove-hungry! From its first beat to its final hit, this chart comes alive with the energy and attitude of a musical creature that just cant stop groovin'!
