I bought this as a travel guitar and I can’t express how impressed I am with it. I have 3 high end guitars that are much more expensive that end up staying in their cases until played for fear of humidity issues but this DX stays out on a stand beside my desk all year round with no structural issues. The tone is thick and warm, the neck is very playable and it sounds great plugged. Five stars at this price point!

I came across this guitar while doing what is a dangerous thing to do - visiting Long & McQuade and going into the acoustic guitar room. I am like a kid in a candy store and many times such visits result in me buying a guitar. Like in this case. I fell in love with one of these minutes after playing it and before it was set up properly. The sound and action and everything about it made me have to buy it. For 809.00 CDN buy it what value ! - get some Martin Authentic Red Label Light Acoustic strings and take it to L&M Pickering to Alan for the free warranty initial set up, and there you go. A+.

I tried this guitar at the store and i fell in love with it immediately but the real thing is that i tried other guitars that were, let’s say, expensive and my ears (and my heart!) were really into this one.

Played guitar in store and liked it very much. Got home and plugged in and sounded great until I did some blues riffs up the neck. High e string would not play above the 7th fret. Thought was intonation and took it back to store for a set up. Tech stated that the frets were not set properly from factory. They were good about ordering a new guitar for me and very apologetic .

If you're about great sound at an amazing price point, boy is this the acoustic for you! I fooled around with it one Saturday at L&M and couldn't get it out of my head. The sound is amazing rich and full at every range. I played a used D28 at the same time and honestly couldn't hear the difference. Yes, it's laminate back and sides, but that doesn't seem to have any impact on performance. I finally couldn't stand thinking about it anymore and bought it this morning. 8 hours later I've played everything I know and I think I'll start over again. I haven't plugged it in, so I can't comment on the electronics, but if it sounds close to as good as it does when strumming and finger picking, I may never put it down! Love, love, love this Martin!

bought this one month ago and can't put it down. Feels and sounds like a real Martin, despite being made with some prefab parts in Mexico. Best guitar for the money I have found . .

If you're a purist who needs traditional appointments and an all wood guitar, you might be disappointed, but wow...this budget Martin is a LOT of guitar for the money. Definitely has that Martin sound despite the techniques used to make this affordable. Love the way the neck is put together - it feels indestructable. The sound and tone coming from this beast is pure Martin, and this gets as much as play as the pricier members of my collection, and dare i say, sounds just as good, if not different.

I picked up this Martin because I wanted a quality acoustic that I could travel with but wouldn't have a nervous breakdown if it were to get banged up a bit. Don't feel that way now. This baby is a Martin through and through, even with the HPL sides and back and the Made in Mexico tag. I was dubious at first but after a couple of times tinkering with it at L&M, I figured it was worth the money. Little did I realize just how wonderful this guitar is and now, definitely want to protect it. Still not a bad guitar to travel with as the laminate should protect it against climate changes a bit better than solid wood. Love the neck, feels solid and is a little chunky, something to really hold on to. Works well plugged in...high end is decent, although maybe not as crystal clear as some of the more expensive options, but the low end just rumbles. Great quality instrument for the money...it may never be a legacy guitar, but you'll get tons of mileage and fun from it.

I always wanted a Martin but until now could never afford one. I guess you get what you pay for. If I leave the guitar out of its case for any longer then an hour or two the top will start caving in to the point the strings bottom out against the frets. Yeah my house is dry in the winter but hanging on the wall right beside it are my solid top Takaminie and my solid top Yamaha and neither one of them are shape shifting on me. I first took it back to my point of purchase Steve' s music, they told me to wrap it in a garbage bag with damp towels. This is a good trick and it actually works, the guitar bounced back BUT Who wants to keep my prised possession in a garbage bag filled with damp rags? I want to hang it on the wall and enjoy it when the mood strikes me! I have complained also to Martin and they have politely ignored me, gee thanks Martin! The guitar will soon be one year old, the problems began within three months of laying down my cash. No help from the retailer or the manufacturer! My advice to you is to steer clear of this guitar, I can't speak for the rest of their product line but if this is any indication of the way they treat their clientele I would avoid them all together...good luck!

I've been a musician and guitar player for 50 years, and I've played them all. If you want a Martin at a bargain price, this is the one. Fantastic sound from solid Sitka top, beautiful neck, Fishman electronics, for less than $600. I purchased it about a week ago and have not put it down since.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
