I was looking for a basic controller that would give me the ability to program AND modify fixture attributes live (ie. during a performance). This is the only controller in this price range that will hold fixture attributes after a fixture is deselected. This alone is reason enough to go with the Orion controller as Chauvet, Microh and ADJ controllers are basically copies of the same system. Neither of those allows live changes without entering program mode. Power jack is a bit iffy and you need to be really careful not to disconnect from power during a show but otherwise, well worth the price. Only complaint (other than a really short power cord/wall wart) is it can't be rack-mounted. Too bad.

Product ExperienceI've tried it

Rented this for a week to test if it were worth purchasing. Short answer, it's not. The board has 12 fixtures with 16 dmx channels per fixture. The dmx channels are assigned one to one and cannot be changed. You can not reassign dmx channels. The joy stick is extremely limited being the only thing you can assign dmx to. It only allows to you assign it to two channels per fixture. Meaning if you have a fixture with 2 moving heads or two moving lights under one fixture you can only control one of them. Fade times don't effect manual switching of scenes which means every time to manually? change a scene it is an instant abrupt switch. When in auto mode the the unit switches between the 8 scenes programmed with fades in ascending order. I found this caused random flickering on and off with my lights making it useless as some times it worked as intended other times it became an erratic flashing mess. Every time you adjust the speed of fades or timing the unit restarts the loop. Meaning if you're trying to dial in a speed all you see is the first light of the loop on until you stop moving the fader. I could go on as there was more but if this isn't enough to make you turn and run from the board then you must be a masochist. TL;DR: if you want something to program static scenes that will never change this may meet your needs. If you want to control dmx lights look elsewhere. I tested the board with Orion Orcan1, Chauvet Intimidator Spot Duo, Micro LEDP64KDII

I use 2 banks of Yorkville 4 LED lamp, 4 high power Microh MAX QUAD LED ZOOM lights & 4 American DJ intelligent lights connected via DMX all controlled with MIDI from my laptop with stunning results. Everything from strobing to slow fades & blackouts can be programmed & the results are smooth & accurate. The previous poster must have lighting that does not utilize standard 512 DMX protocol because regardless of whether you use LED or regular 500 watt luminaires the controller works flawlessly. The determining factor is whether the LED fixture has dimming capability? Even LED bulbs intended for commercial or household applications that one can buy at Walmart have a warning label to let the consumer know that the bulb can be dimmed via a dimmer.
