I was a bit skeptical about spending nearly $100 on a practice pad, but this is much more than a standard pad. You can use it as a stand alone pad and it'll give you plenty of tone and rebound. You can really practice dynamic playing because of the tone you get from it. It has a thick, non-slip surface on the bottom so you can place it on a table or your knees and it'll stay put. When you place it on a drum, the rubber gasket keeps it secure and it allows the tone and pitch of the drum to be heard. If you want to practice brush work you can; it has a textured surface that allow appears to be impervious to getting dirty.
I'm so impressed with this pad that I think I'll order a kick pad and pads for the rest of my drums.
If it wasn't for the steep price tag Id give the ASP a 5/5.
