I'm subbing in with a borrowed bari that came with a #5 stock Yamaha piece that I can close up in a heartbeat (I play a Link clone with an 8 tip on Tenor). I was in L&M to buy some super stiff reeds and saw this for fifteen bucks more than a box of reeds. The staff said it's killer. So what with the price and the 30 day return policy, I took a flyer on an M7. I was a bit hesitant because it has such a ridiculous baffle but they also have a sister piece with a more conventional roll-over baffle for thirty some bucks. So I figured I could get it if this one didn't work. It works. It's an absolutely amazing mouthpiece. The baffle looks so extreme, but it sounds great. Way, way better than a $48 dollar piece should sound.

I purchased an M9 baritone sax mouthpiece from L&M in Peterborough, Ontario. I am impressed and have played it exclusively for several years.
I had tried a couple of the more closed Rico models (5’s), but found them too bright and difficult to get a blend in a big band situation. However, a friend encouraged me to try the M9.
It looks a little radical with the step baffle, but the wider tip opening and the medium chamber seems to be a great combination. I play an 8 (.110 opening) on tenor, and the transition to .120 on this bari mouthpiece was easy.
I highly recommend the Rico M9 Bari mouthpiece and think it would be a bargain at twice the price! It is also ligature friendly, unlike so many new mouthpieces that seem to require a special ligature.

I bought an M7 Metalite mouthpiece as an alternative to compare to my V16 Barisax Mouthpiece. In comparison to the V16 the beak angle is different, the metalite mouthpiece feels slightly darker than the V16 but it still projects quite well. The Metalite is just what I am looking for, it is easy to controll, the lower range of the instrument speaks quite well and the dynamic versitility is capable. It doesn't like ligatures though and you may have trouble finding one that fits nicely. For just shy of 50$ this is a great versitile mouthpiece.
