49-key Synthesizer with Aftertouch, Analog and Digital Synth Engines, Analog Filters, Digital Effects, 16-track Sequencer, Vocoder, USB Interface, and CV/Gate Outs

The JD-XA is a crossover synth that brings together analog warmth and digital versatility in one super-creative, no-compromise instrument. First, there's a four-part, all-analog monster with true analog filters and a direct dry output. Next up is a four-part digital engine powered by Roland's SuperNATURAL synth technology, plus an impressive selection of potent effects. The JD-XA's engines can be used independently or interactively, providing an incredibly flexible platform for sound design, studio work, and live performance. Use the analog and digital parts side by side, stack them up for total sonic devastation, or shape digital waveforms via the analog filters to create sounds never heard before. With the JD-XA, you can forget about analog or digitaljust close your eyes, imagine how the future sounds, and start creating music.

Roland has done it again. This thing looks and sounds incredible. It's good enough for Nick Rhodes so it's good enough for me, right? Features: 4.5/5 I took off half a point because oddly the sequencer on this beast isn't as versatile as the one on the little brother (JD-Xi). Also missing is the drum machine of the JD-Xi. Bizarre design choice but I'm assuming Roland intended one to be paired with the other. That's not to say the sequencer on this is useless - it's easy to use and still incredibly handy for recording. Otherwise, all the tools for impressive patch creation are accessible at your fingertips. The built in effects are incredible and the blend of analog and digital voices allows for incredibly versatility. If you're more the "plug and play" type then the built in patches will offer hours of fun as well as the bonus packs that are free on the Roland/Axial website. I strongly recommend taking the time to learn this thing though. It's worth it. Quality: 5/5 It's a Roland product. Enough said! My years of buying Boss pedals for guitar playing have been enough to prove the durability of their products. Value: 5/5 With the ever rising prices of the classic analog synths, I feel like this is incredible value for the price. I can create Jupiter-like tones with ease and at a fraction of the cost (especially as I was fortunate enough to purchase a used JD-XA through L&M). Overall: 5/5 I'm very pleased with the purchase. This is my first high-end synthesizer and I feel like I made the right choice. (One minor note - the red backlight can make the text hard to read despite how cool it looks, but luckily there are replacement panels available with white text. I recommend the upgrade!)
