Sounds great. It absolutely nails the old school rock sounds. Sweet Emotion / La Grange / The Rover tones are easy to get. Even some VH sounds in there. An outstanding practice / basement piece of gear. I usually pair this with a 20w Orange practice amp. The amp has no built in effects so it is very transparent, allowing the pedal to control the sound. Alnico pickups sound very good through it. The stock Bugera tube is decent, although changing it to a sovtek was a jaw dropping change. I recommened playing with different tubes. You can get a very good sound from this for a couple hundred bucks, through a clean solid state amp. Into the solid state amp it sounds better than any OD pedal I own. I would consider this a tube preamp. Solid buy.

Finally a review. And it's my first. After owning it for 10 months or so, and waiting 6 months for delivery of it, here are my thoughts. Features and Quality: THE GOOD: Metal case, true bypass, noise gate, 9v sistem, tube driven. THE OKAY: Master volume can not be used as a clean boost(it will slightly distort with the gain off), 3 band EQ(2 mid controls would be nice, but I can still match my dry tone with the controls provided), and overdrive only,(could have fuzz/overdrive/distortion switch, but it sort of visits fuzz and distortion). THE BAD: Large box with control knobs directly mounted to the circuit board(don't stomp on the knobs), and no battery. SOUND: My old 1966 Traynor Signature Amp will chew up and spits out cheap sounding pedals. If it is junk, it will let me know, and it didn't happen here. This will react just like a tube amp. The more volume and attack you give, the more overdrive you get. From light break up blues to old-school heavy metal(for modern death metal, active or extremely hot pickups are needed). With the stock, cheap, Chinese tube, it is a little harsh and choppy. I have tried a 12ax7 and a ECC83 for British voicing. Both of them VOS(vintage old stock), both of them helped greatly in smoothing and improving the sound quality(a capacitor upgrade might also improve overall performance). It adapted to both voicings quite well. With the ECC83 in place, and a direct side by side comparison, to the over 3 1/2 times the price, Radial Tonebone Hot British, the voicing was nearly the same. You can shape your tone more easily, and it has a smoother higher gained distortion(but it is a distortion pedal). With light blues/county break up, and vintage overdrive sound, the Tube Monster is better suited for the job. The tonebone sucks the bass away, even with the bass fully open, very little bass. You can match you guitars bass around a 7-9. With it fully open, YOU CAN PLAY A BASS GUITAR THROUGH THE TUBE MONSTER! I haven't done a side by side comparison to a strictly bass guitar fuzz. But with the youtube videos I've seen. I LIKE THIS BETTER, AND WILL NOT BE SEEKING A BASS FUZZ PEDAL. OVERALL: At 66 dollars plus tax and a quality tube replacement. Nothing can come close to the value. Hands down beats any solid state overdrive, that is over twice its price. A couple of voicing mod options it doesn't have can be bought on Ebay, if you wanted to. It Brings a smile to my face, each time I use it. Great for amps with no overdrive. Or put in on the edge of you clean setting on your tube amp, using the master volume for natural front end boost'n'grit, or go crazy with the gain setting. Big smiles, so much fun, so little price. Can't go wrong. Great buy.
