The sound and control of a Jupiter-8, the size of a book.

The legendary Jupiter-8 synth is back as a limited-edition module no bigger than a book. Part of the Roland Boutique series, the JP-08 is all about hands-on control and that iconic Jupiter sound. With an array of 36 knobs and sliders from the original Jupiter-8 front panel, the 4-voice JP-08 is highly programmable and encourages sonic experimentation, especially with the built-in speaker and battery operation. Using Rolands acclaimed Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology the JP-08 faithfully reproduces the original Jupiter-8 sounds and adds a few new twists in the form of extra LFOs and expanded VCO range. You can even slide the JP-08 into the optional K-25m keyboard unit for a self-contained, go-anywhere synth experience.

  • Ultra-compact recreation of the iconic Jupiter-8 synthesizer

  • Retains the feel, sound, character and user interface of the original

  • 36 of the original synth parameters controllable from the front panel

  • Adds several additions not found on the original Jupiter-8, including extra waveforms, expanded VCO range

  • Chain mode allows two JP-08 to function as one 8-voice module

  • Highly portable for mobile music making

  • High-quality construction with metal front panel

  • Dual ribbon controllers for pitch bend, modulation, and sound preview

  • Battery-operated (4xAA) or USB powered

  • 24 bit / 44.1 kHz stereo IN/OUT USB audio interface

  • Built-in 0.5W mini-speaker for instant enjoyment

  • Compatible with optional K-25m keyboard unit

I purchased this along with a JX-03 on sale. These are very nicely built and sounds great. Lots of adjustments to get that perfect sound. The only issue I have with the JP-08 (and it is common if you do the research) is that when using MIDI USB, there is a lot of noise coming from the output. I solved this after much reading by using a USB wall wart for power and going to the old DIN style MIDI connections. I really wanted to use USB MIDI but the noise was too annoying. It's funny that I don't have this issue with JX-03 and it is being powered and MIDI through USB. Anyway, for the sale price, you can't go wrong for all the fun you can have with it.

I have analog gear in the studio , including 2 Roland Super jx10's and Novation Basestation I was so impressed by this unit after purchasing and playing with it for 2 hours I went and bought a second one. (they were on sale boxing day). It certainly is not a JX 10 by any means , but it has the right flavor!! Very easy to program and modify on the fly ... Updated the software to 1.11 to support Midi cc messages.. Use it as an outboard in Ableton 9.0 live.

Enjoying the JP-08. Not quite as immediate as a Yamaha CS for dialing-in sounds but more fully featured so I reach for it when I need to use a feature that the CS doesn't offer. The knobs are a bit fiddly but still reasonably usable. The breadandbuttersounds.com online patch editor is very handy. Sounds are very good but like any virtual analogue synth slightly on the bright side. Most of the factory presets are cheesy (not unusual on synths of all kinds) but that makes it an easy decision to over-write them with better sounds.
