Great for an old Strat that doesn't have the original pickups!

Picture a 74 black ash bodied Strat. All would have been good if I got everything original, but I didn't. Especially the pickups. They have black backs and were obviously replacements for whatever was there. Consulting with a Strat spec book the pickups should have had dark grey backs on them. I put a set of Texas Specials in which are a little hot and trebly. Once you set the height correctly, the Texas sizzle was happening. It still worried me though as those are far from what should be in there. I noticed Fender had quite a few year specific Custom sets. I was wanting to try a Vintage 73 set then that would be period correct but I found a69 set that surprisingly had the grey backs on them so they look period correct.
Once I installed them they have a more open and less harsh sound and I liked the fact they sound louder than usual. That's hard to get with single coil pickups especially when you mix them with humbuckers. Very impressed! I have a Vintage Reissue 62 Strat with stock pickups which are the 57/62 pickups and they are quiet and thin. I am eying a Vintage 59 set now for that one!

Put a set of these CS '69 pickups in a Squire Vintage vibe 50's Strat - these things are well made and play great, now with the 69's it's clear, dynamic and responsive - all at a fraction of the cost of a good Fender Strat. The 69's seem a bit less trebly and more open than the Fat 60's and Texas Specials. Distortion lovers, look elsewhere - these are for clean, edge of breakup articulated playing.

...and I have a new guitar!!! These are easily the smoothest, creamy, strat pups I've ever heard. Beautiful lush tones and completely transformed an otherwise mediocre instrument. Thanks to the Fender Custom Shop. Bravo!!!

Quintessentially the most perfect example of fender sound and tone. I have them in two of mine, mim and a Pro. Touch sensitivity increased substantially and nuances never heard before from the guitar. All stock pups should be replaced with these. I've tried others but stuck with the '69.
