Bought this amp 5-6 years ago. It's a good amp for beginner young metal heads. It's worth the money for that purpose. For the tone, the crunch channel is best. The metal and insane channels have plenty of gain to satisfy that need, but too fuzzy and cold for me. It's harsh, blurry and an icepick in the ears. The clean channel with reverb appears nice at first, but then i hear some ghost digital crackling in the back ground,as if the guitar's pickups were too loud for it to handle. Most wouldn't probably notice this, but i do and it ruins it for me. Currently shopping for another small cheap bedroom amp to replace this. Quality is a 2 for me as the controls got very scratchy, did'nt expect this on a modern digital amp.

Was given a Spider IV as a Christmas gift in 2009 as a replacement for my Roland Cube Amp, and having had it now for almost 7 years I can safely say that the Spiders get a bad rap. Honestly they're great little amps for beginner/novice players who haven't progressed enough as guitarists to warrant sinking the money into something better. It has an decent clean channel for practicing chords and scales, a crunch channel that can be endlessly fiddled with so you can experiment and find your sound, and the high gain "insane" mode is great for just jamming to tunes. For the amount of money you pay for this thing it really isn't that bad... I've since moved on to something else as my main practice Amp (Orange Micro Terror), but I will be endlessly grateful for what this Line 6 has done for me. It was a stepping stone to becoming a better player.

trying out for a while now together with a fender mustang 1 personally think the mustang is the winner of the two it sounds warmer. the line 6 is what you want to get to play metal and heavier rock it sounds digital especially compared to the mustang. if you're into to rock and blues definitely go for the mustang. looking for a practice amp give this one a try it could suit your needs easy operation amp my choice is the mustang

As a starter/practice it does the job but it lacks in features compared to other brands and the tone is very thin. For the $$ a comparable amp is the Peavey Vypr/VIP which is far better in all areas. Tone wise a VOX is superior. Your money is well spent on other choices as this offering from Line 6 falls short. Cleans are reasonable and the ability to switch between the 3 gain settings is very convenient but I just feel that as an entry amp they've failed to move to a model that is comparable to their competition. The Mustang series is another perfect example. Unless you are trying to get high gain for metal then try something else.

For what the price is, this exceeded expectations, providing extraordinary sound volume and quality and a variety of adjustable variables to tweak sound to suit what I needed. The built in tuner is also a great accessory!

I bought this on impulse a few years ago , it has not been used as much as my other practice amps but it has come out of hiding recently and is being played lots. I'm not much into the metal or insane channels but the clean and crunch channels suit me just fine , the crunch channel being my favourite for blues and classic rock tones. The effects and tuner have seen little use but that's just me. I bought the optional footswitch too as a convenience . Overall I'm happy and feel that this amp is a good value.

I received this as a birthday gift, mostly because my brother has the Spider IV 75 (Which is great, by the way) but this one just doesn't live up to the hype. There are constant fluctuations in the tone and volume, forcing me to keep everything either on maximum or at zero to prevent the volume from jumping to max. The "Artist Quality Tone" advertised on the box is also false. Using a '58 Korina Explorer Reissue, the sound is much better through a Frontman 10G. Though having multiple channels is nice if you don't like pedals, my Digitech RP55 does a lot more. In all, if you'd like a nice little practise amp this is satisfactory, but if you're tone hungry or want true studio quality I'd look elsewhere.

Bought it, took it home, glad L&M has a return policy. Its a decent amp and i dont expect much at the $100 price point. But this thing just doesnt do what i needed it to. That is, be a quiet practice amp that lets me runa Pod2.0 or other modeller for decent tone. The clean is the only onboard channel worth talking about and it doesnt stand up to a Roland cube or Fender Mustang imo. So for me, im back to my jellybean and headphones. I can run this through my Traynor Dynagain 60 and the clean on that is much better. The low volume on the solid state is comparable, so the Spider iV was no advantage to me. BUT, If im a young starting out guitar player, this is a good amp to consider. Good price, okay tone, headphone option, and it speaks CAT5 to other Line6. Good for what it is, not good enough for a tone-junkie like myself. (Pod2.0 is the lower threshold on what i will accept for tone). I was hopeing for more from Line6.

Ive been playing guitar for about 21 years and bought this as a practice amp being that i live in an appartment i wasnt expecting too much for volume levels, with the right tweeking its a great competitor for some marshall and fender amps, and deffinatlu one of the best smaller amps from line 6. The built in tuner takes a bit of practice to figure out but convenient when you do. the built in effects arent as crisp as id like but at 100.00 cant complain

Not too bad especially for the price. However I found the sounds to be sterile and the clean channels were not inspiring. Ending up taking it back and getting a Fender Vibro Champ. Much better to my ears although the pre-sets are not as convenient.

This is a good amp for a beginner guitarist. It has many different effects, including four presets, which are clean, crunch, metal ,and insane. Clean has the least amount of distortion, and is ideal for jazz, and is ideal and country. Crunch has much more distortion than clean, but it is kept at a reasonable level, ideal for rock, classic rock, and the blues. Metal has a high amount of distortion, and is used for metal, and punk rock. Insane has the most distortion you can get out of any amp, and is ideal for modern metal. It has six effects, which are chorus/flange, phaser, tremolo, sweep echo, tape echo, and reverb. It has an echo delay button, which sets the delay of the echo. Some other features are built in tuner, CD jack, headphone jack, and a FBV pedal jack. Worth taking a look at.

I bought one to accompany my Epiphone Les Paul Special II and it sounds surprisingly good for an $100 amp (not to mention that it's being used with a low-end guitar). The 4 channels allow a variety of tones that can give you many options in terms of how you want to play. The stock settings for each channel are mediocre, but you can find different settings at line6.com/spiderstuff that sound excellent. Also, the effects allow for an even larger range of tones, and also allow you to have some fun trying to create different sounds with the use of echo, reverb, flange, and a phaser. An all around great amp for an affordable price.

For a 15w, this thing is LOUD. The 4 channels are all great for any kind of music. The only thing is that the the clean channel doesn't sound very good. It sounds better to go on the crunch channel and turn the drive down to 0.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
