The Bass Fly Rig includes a SansAmp, Octafilter, Chorus, Compressor, and a Boost rolled into one pedal with extra connectivity for versatility.

SansAmp, of course, as its center point, with Tech 21's unique Character control that sweeps through the most storied vintage and modern tones. Three-band active EQ provides professional grade tweakability for any situation. For dirt and grind, Drive adds gain and overdrive. You can also add distortion by engaging the Pre-Boost. And then theres Fuzz in the OCTAFILTER section. Each method achieves a different variety of tonal madness. You can even use all three at the same time, but be sure to hold onto your shorts.

OCTAFILTER brings an entire re-invented pallette of expression with a crazy amount of possibilities, from Minimoog-style synth to funky town. The controls interact so that you can get dynamically-filtered clean, fuzz, and octave, as well as octave and fuzz together. When Q is at minimum, Range becomes a high-cut tone filter for different versions of clean, fuzz, octave, and octave and fuzz together. You can then blend any of these combinations with your direct signal via the Mix control. But wait, theres more. By bringing in some COMP, you can get infinite sustain like a keyboard bass.

Features:

• SansAmp, Octafilter, Chorus, Comp, Boost Effects
• Built-in Chromatic Tuner
• Headphone button switches the 1/4" output into headphone mode
• 1/4-inch 4.7 MOhm input to deliver the full sound of piezos
• Input Pad for active basses
• XLR output with ground connect
• 1/4-inch low impedance output
• Rugged, all-metal housing
• Metal footswitches and jacks
• Silent-switching, custom footswitch actuators
• Utilizes included 9V, 200mA DC power supply

I purchased the bass fly rig from the Bloor location and have had about one year with it. It’s a perfect tone shaping tool and grows on you the longer you have it. I play a Hofner bass, jazz bass and precision. I am getting complete control over my tone using the fly rig and allows my different basses to be more versatile and cut through the mix just right. For example, With flyrig I now have the tone flexibility so I can use my Hofner for a wider range of songs, where before I was somewhat limited. The other features , compressor, chorus, tuner, boost and octave effects are all useful and well executed.

I was interested in something minimalist that I could get a lot of versatility out of. Tonally you can dial this thing in a boatload of different ways (Tech21 includes a sheet with a dozen examples or so..."Wanna dial in Sabotage by the Beastie Boys? Adjust knobs to here.") I play in a rock covers band, so the SansAmp is ideal, the boost is JUST enough for the few times I want it, plus the compression and chorus are just the touch I like. The Octafilter is...strange to say the least, and you COULD dial in some spacey post rock or synth bass with it if you got it juuuuust right. The fuzz is also a bit bland for my tastes, but your mileage may vary.

For my purposee, a terrific live tool. Replaced my big expensive heavy board. I use it both with my worship band, in an ampless set up, and straight to the board in parallel with my amp with the other two bands I play with. Very logically ordered, just the right effects, useful comp, and great Tech 21 eq. Can't recommend enough.

Thanks to the L&McQ's return/exchange policy, and following Tech 21's efficient customer service, I got a replacement for this pedal. It has been working flawlessly for the past weeks in my home studio. It is a complete bass player's pedal board which, unlike other do-it-all pedals that I had tried in the interim, features a nice/genuine SansAmp pre and a NOISELESS bypass. The effects are practical and lush. I've added a mini HOF and a Flashback: my space conscious rig is now complete. The Boost is useful, so are the tuner and XLR out for recording. All in all, an amazing pedal board for the size.

I had this unit in my home studio for 2 weeks and I was pretty happy with it (sans amp and all) until it stopped working out of the blue for no apparent reason - I googled and found out it had issues due to it's flimsy circuits- it makes me miss my reliable zoom B3 that I sold to get this ... I'l get an replacement and see ... otherwise, I'll certainly consider getting the more reliable zoom B3N (which, btw, is more affordable).

My bass game is tonally very straight-ahead, so I was looking to enhance my options in the least fussy way possible. This sturdy little guy did the trick! All options are on the table here: the SansAmp provides a great stand-alone tone if you're running to a board, and it in combination with the compressor affords a nice range of useable tones. My Rumble 500 plays nicely with this unit, for sure. In a recent trio gig, I used the rig's chorus to beef up my tone and I really appreciate the simplicity of that control, especially. When it comes to Octave and Fuzz settings, I recommend starting with the suggested settings provided in the manual as they will serve as touchstones for finding mixes that work for you and your band as you experiment. The tuner is user-friendly and great for quick stops. If you're looking for a quality, minimalist way to give yourself instantly expanded tonal options, this is the way to go. (I'm presently using atop my amp and use hand-switching rather than my feet as there are so many tweakable knobs to this little guy.) Trust me: you'll love it.

Great pedal, had my first jam with it last night. The all-analogue Compressor and Sans Amp are the meat and potatoes here and match up or exceed any pedal based unit I've used. The Octafilter is good, maybe not as good as some filters but it is certainly useable and sounded great with the band. The chorus is a nice feature as well, not overly wet but gives a nice layer. Like I said, just replaced my board and is one more case I don't need to drag around to jams and gigs, sweet!

Product Experience   I've tried it

I've spent a solid week with this incredible device and my biggest decision is if this is going to replace my main rig as it has everything that I'm currently using plus more in a much smaller package. The first thing that I wish it had was a battery power option, but if you have a pedal juice or similar, you're fine. The second thing that I wish that it had was an output pad for the XLR out, but most boards/interfaces will have one. If you are a big knob turner, the little knobs may not last for you, but it's not an issue for me. As with the guitar model(s) the knobs lighting up is very handy, and these knobs are better than the guitar ones. In Pad is very useful, as is the comp. Boost function is perfect and the pre/post option is really handy. The Sansamp portion is as the legendary units are, very versatile, but I was already used to one, so I may be biased. Having a mid knob is a huge step from my old Bass Driver Deluxe. The tuner is very helpful, not as easy to read as a single Korg, but far more accurate than a Moer or similar. The chorus is very usable and to the point. The Octafilter is a great addition to the pedal. I found the octave and fuzz options gave a ton of usable sounds, and loved them together for more synth bass sounds, however, without them I had a hard time finding an envelope filter setting that I liked. Adding the headphone out setting is what made this unit really shine. Yes, it's a great unit on a stage and really useful for recording, perfect for smaller spaces too, but the fact that you can use it with headphones, pedal juice, and play in hotel rooms, busses, etc and still get all of the sonic options of your full rig, it's great. Yes, features like adding an FX loop, an aux in, etc would also have been handy, but that would have put up the price, and made the unit bigger. Far better sound quality than a lot of other multi units out there.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
