I'm an audio/video guy looking for production music and sounds, I'm not a gigging performer. Being more guitarist than a keyboard person, an Arranger was important to me because Arrangers can almost be played convincingly with a few fingers. This is the most expensive keyboard I have had so far. Couldn't justify the cost of the Tyros 5 and offerings in that price range. I watched about every video on YouTube before choosing this Yamaha. Korg was a close second, and I loved the Roland and other offerings, but the Yamaha was fully featured, really great sounding and significantly less expensive. The Korg can record in BOTH .mp3 and .wav but the Yamaha can only READ .mp3 and wav and it RECORDS in ONLY .wav. Also the Yamaha has issues assigning .mp3 to performance pads, it just won't. You gotta use those huge .wav files. This means you'll be wanting the largest capacity thumb drive you can afford. The vocal processor was most important to me next to the Yamaha sounds. Korg doesn't advertise how much of the TC Helicon processor they include, but from what I could find, it seemed like they only gave a limited number of patches, not the whole deal. I couldn't find out more info online, and there's no vendors in my area where I could check it out. Long and McQuade didn't have either board in stock over here. But I found out the Yamaha is in their second generation of vocal processor, with their Vocal Harmony 2, and that you can change your vocal part in the harmony, and that you can tune each of the accompanying harmonizing vocal parts in addition to adding dsp effects etc. The Bob->Mary setting makes you sound like a demon and the Mary->Bob setting makes a bass tenor sound like a girl, lots of fun. Many more and all are tune-able. Be prepared to while away many happy hours playing in the Mic Settings/Vocal Harmony area. Quite complicated, but very nice! It also has a fully featured vocoder. I was not disappointed, although the feature-set can seem overwhelming with the many voices and combinations and options for each. Otherwise, sometimes the keys seem sluggish, depending on what instrument you are emulating. It seems to want you to learn instrument specific techniques for playing some instruments. But, I think some compromise is in order when you are making a keyboard play the various parts of every instrument in an orchestra, etc. On the other hand, I am disappointed Yamaha expects me to buy an Apple device to be able to use their midi apps. No support for Android at this time. However, Yamaha makes a beautiful sounding instrument. The voices and features only get better with each generation. I am very happy with this board.
