Despite what other reviews have stated. This is not heavier than the S1. It's actually a bit lighter. The photo print finish on the surface is Koa, and not 1970s panel wood (which would look more dull and lifeless). The details on this are excellent quality and what you would expect from the Martin brand. You could take it to the beach, but it's not constructed like an Outdoor Ukulele brand ukulele, which is designed to be near indestructible.. it's designed like a ukulele (with real kerfing inside). I'm not sure how the morado fretboard would have rain/surf water. It comes with fluorocarbon strings (great) and a Martin big bag. A worthy purchase and an excellent addition for your Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome, lol.

This is an entry-level Martin soprano uke made in Mexico. It's heavier and seemlingly sturdier than the other Martin entry-level sopranos (SO/S1) and the wood is koa laminate (looks like 1970s paneling) but it sounds and plays well for a really good starter uke. Its mellow sound and intonation are both excellent. This uke would be great for camping or on the beach. It can easily handle a bit of rough terrain methinks.
