I often have read over the years that the Dual Rectifier is only for metal players but after owning the newer mutli-watt Dual Rectifier that is simply not the case. This amp really does everything very well that its like owning 6 amps in one. Mesa tweaked the circuitry a lot and it sits in a mix really well for just about any style of music. Channel 1 has the pristine cleans based off the Lone Star Mesa amps and it also has a Pushed mode that lets you get a classic overdriven 50s/60s style sounds (great for blues and other lower gain rock). You can also boost or overdrive this channel and get into a lead or rock crunch sound with ease bordering on a Fender Bassman or Plexi. Channel 2 & 3 are identical other than they have some tweaks to the presence and treble which lets you set one for crunchy sounds and the other for leads or higher gain rhythm more easily. These channels have Raw, Vintage and Modern mode. Raw is just fantastic, its the perfect medium gain sound with tons of clarity and warmth and most touch responsive. I would say this is the mode you want for 70s/80s rock sounds bordering on classic metal sounds. It also has a very good 'attack' when you strum a chord and the notes ring out with perfect note separation (unlike many 100W vintage tube amps). You can also clean this mode up a lot with the guitars volume knob or by reducing the gain on the amp.. the amount of tones available is huge just in this single mode and you can have it on each channel set to how you like. Again, you can boost or drive these channels as well and shape/craft the sound further to what you want but the amp has so much gain that I pretty much stopped using pedals with it. As for vintage/modern.. these are both also highly versatile. Vintage is definitely the best for lead sounds.. ridiculous amount of sustain and it feels good under the hands. Just the classic high gain violin sound where every note feels enormous yet rings out clearly. Even the high notes up to the 24th fret on my guitar felt enormous under the hands. You have to play one to know what I mean. Modern is the most high gain and is quite scooped. This sound has a lot of fizz if you play at low volumes. I would not recommend this mode for a bedroom environment, it is much better at higher volumes or if you can attenuate the amp and hit the power section so it fills out. This amp has a lot more midrange when the power section is hit, otherwise its so scooped and fizzy. Either way this is an awesome mode for high gain rhythm sounds or more modern lead sounds (like Nu-metal lead sounds). Whats amazing though despite having so much gain you can still make out all the notes in a chord, it does not distort them like other amps will. Mesa also really improved the volume controls on this amp head. All though not ideal for bedroom playing, you can use it in a bedroom much easier than other 100W heads I have used. It is still very usable at low volumes, just stay away from the Modern mode unless you have a loadbox or attenuator. You can also bring it down to 50W (which is still crazy loud) but does make it easier to use at lower volumes. I have also played Mesa's Triple Crown amp.. and all though its a great head.. I really think this Rectifier is the best big amp head Mesa offers. Unless you need spring reverb, I would take this amp over that amp any day. It also has the best effects loop with loop level control which is very useful. Once you learn the EQ you can really get any sound from vintage rock to modern metal or for jazz or fusion sounds. Its overall a lot less complex than a Mark amp as well. The build quality is also wonderful and nothing feels cheap. Highly recommend.. worth every dollar.

I bought this amp for one reason... it's tone. However my tastes have changed a wee bit and I was pondering switching back to Marshall or trying out an Orange amp; but, THEN I REMEMBERED! - you can switch out the 6L6's to EL34's tubes, easy peasy with the flick of a switch! So I did, and needless to say, I love my amp again! I run this head through a MB Straight/Slant cab and it it PLENTY load. I run it only with 2 power tubes on the spongy/tube setting, it sounds great. Mesa builds their gear very solid and it is heavy. I tell this story to so many people, and they always react with a, "wow, you can do that? Don't you need to re-bias the amp?" Nope. +1 Mesa Boogie! ®

I can't say enough, my name is Adrian Blaney I'm the lead guitarist of Tracenine, currently endorsed by Mesa Boogie but this was our choice due to the Dual Rectifier being the a@#$ ripping amplifier it is fit our heavy music and our tight tone , punches and chugging . Dual Rec. amplifier is very sensitive and unique but ball crushing , you need to know how to use it , I read the 70 page manuel before I plugged in or else you wont understand the how the rectifier tube works its purpose and the effects loop which can be tricky with or without effect in the loop. i stress read the manuel you'll get the best tones and the most out of your amp. I had to call and speak with our Boogie rep "Chris " outstanding customer service , you guys rock at Mesa Boogie thank you for all the help, and Long & Mcquade put the red carpet out for any customer service regarding the amp, which is what they always do regardless , sales staff in Cambridge store , they rock!!!!! So as for different tones from this amp that I'm able to accomplish believe it or not I love Eddie Van Halen off the top .I can rip Euroption tone the "brown sound" very very very close , Pink Floyd to Stones to U2 (with the help of delays and reverbs in the effect loop and front end of amp) Vintage switches to Modern you can dial this baby up if you know what your doing. If you get a chance try it you'll fall in love , remember "READ THE MANUEL !!!!!!!!" its online read it before bed , read it to your son or daughter as a bed time story they too will love it. Go to L & M and test drive it,its a loud amp so make sure you do it on a sunday early afternoon at Long and Mcquade store. One last thing, yes this amp is expensive "but you get what you pay for" buy a road case for it and protect your investment.

Metal Industry Standard. I owned, for a long time, a MK1 series 90's model dual rec. I tried this MK2 model and it has been changed quite a bit, for the better! It has a decent clean channel now, plus the multiwatt assignable feauture. I think it sounds better than the one I owned, try one and see for yourself.

Originally picked up a 2009 model on a blowout sale but then was informed that the new 2010-2011 "Reborn (MKII)" models had a few more options, improved sound and were available with the Black Jute front panel. Returned the old one and paid the difference. Best decision I've made. Better overall tone and big improvements to the clean channel. New 3x2 footswitch is easier to place in a pedal board as well. Product had to be special ordered but was flawless when I got it. Very happy.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
