Custom Special 90 Watt 2x12 Guitar All-Tube Combo Amp
This product is no longer available.
The Custom Special 90 offers the best of all worlds in a high powered all tube combo.

Capable of operating in either a 90-watt Class-AB mode for large stages or concert halls or a more manageable 20-watt pure Class-A mode for club dates and the studio, the Custom Special 90 delivers high headroom and clarity or super saturated lead & blues tones on demand.

Taking the Custom Special 90 2x12 combo on the road is a breeze with the all-new Celestion G12 Century Vintage speakers on board. Designed to deliver the classic Celestion G12 12-inch speaker tone in a lightweight neodymium magnet design, the New Century speakers allow maximum impact from a 2x12-inch combo that is actually a lighter amp that it's 50-watt 1x12 counterpart.

Although lightweight, the Custom Special 90 2x12 combo still uses an all metal chassis and solid plywood cabinet construction, ensuring unmatched reliability over the long haul.

Maximum versatility in the clean channel is ensured by the innovative Brit / USA channel voicing switch unique to the Traynor Custom Special Series. This USA / Brit switch actually relocates the tone stack relative to the gain stages in the clean channel, allowing the Custom Special series EQ section to respond with either a crisp 'American' style tube amp, for clarity and definition, or with a grittier, more 'spongy' 'British' flavor associated with the great UK amps of the 60s and 70s.

An Expander circuit that first appeared on Traynor's popular Custom Valve 80 has been included on the Custom Special 90's rhythm channel allowing the amp to deliver an almost acoustic-like tone when required.

The Custom Special 90's lead channel offers more flexibility and a wider tone pallet than competitive tube amps in its class. Modern and Scoop switches offer the player a choice of 'vintage' tube drive or a more aggressive 'scooped' guitar tone. A solo boost level on the lead channel offers easy access to an additional gain stage, allowing the amp to deliver a clean, crunch and lead tone from the simple two-button footswitch (included).

Accutronics spring reverb, separate parallel effects loop with send and return for external side chain effects like chorus and delays, as well as an in-line loop through for EQ's, Compressors or other effects, a master volume, Presence and Resonance controls are all included on the Custom Special 90.

As an additional feature the Presence and Resonance can be removed from the circuit with a simple touch of a switch on the front panel, shorting the signal path and delivering a truly vintage tube sound for the tone purist.

It's a shame Traynor stopped making these. The tones you can get out of this amp compares to almost every other major manufacturer out there. If you're into metal, you may need to have external drive out front but otherwise this has everything you could want out of a combo amp: power, tone, versatility. Currently using my American Pro Strat through it and it sounds like heaven. I lucked out pretty hard when I picked this up for the price I paid for it. 100% recommend. Beware though, it weighs a ton and is heavier than a gorilla's nutsack.

I was told about this amp and could not believe Traynor quit making it. Even better I could not believe my luck in finding a used one at L&M. In the past few years I have tested many amps looking for that sound I hear in my head. Traynor for me has won every time but, you had to give something up like my YCV20WR had great clean but I could never dial the dirty channel in and used a OD pedal to push the clean channel into crunch. But this amp is like the Traynor Best Of collection with Bonus Tracks. Great clean great crunch and honestly I haven't even used the "3rd" channel and I am still in tone heavan.

Product Experience   I've tried it

I've tried this amp this week. I liked it so much that I have one on the way. The clean channel offers such a wide variety of good tones. Clean harmonics embellishes the sound like a bell/chime like tone. The funky rythms are characterised by very clear note separation... and it responds so well to the picking that for those hard picking funky stuff, you get the right amount of compression... Impressive. The drive channel is as good. The wide possibilites of making that amp sound like a Marshall to a Mesa Boogie blew me away. In fact, to my ears, that amp sounds BETTER than many amps twice the price. Normally, for that price tag you'll get a made in China tag in the rear of the amp with poor construction and quality control. NOT in this case. This is a awesome well built amp wiht obvious good quality control. and it's made here in Canada... Great amp, period!

I tried other amps but for the sound, features and quality this amp can't be beat. The clean sounds are great and takes pedals well. I was going to get an amp and use pedals for dirt but no need with this amp, plenty of gain. I find the sound cuts through well in a band mix. I wanted to find a amp that wasn't going to cost a ton of money but sounded good. This is it. It sound very Marshall like and I enjoy playing with this amp

I'm no amp guru by any stretch, and this was my first foray into the tube amp world. What I do know is that for features, quality, sound, and MADE IN CANADA, it just doesn't get any better. All I read about these amps prior to purchasing was how capable, versatile, and well built they are. Now I have proof, and it was the perfect addition to my collection. I truly believe this amp would outperform any other amp at its price point.

I recently puchased this amp and i'm amazed at the tonal range of it. It has lots of low end punch, clear strong mid-range and bright singing highs. It has tons of built in gain that gives a natural sounding overdrive. The reverb is silky smooth and adjusts from barely noticable to cavrenous. I have been able to get good sounding country, metal and classic rock sounds out of it and I have barely scratched the surface of what it is capable of. With the right guitar and effects this thing can probably reproduce any guitar sound you've every heard. The only thing that seems to be lacking is the warmth of my original YBA3 Custom Special, but then again i've just started playing all the different settings and it's not broken in yet.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
