Sound great. First pair lasted 3 years before the right side stopped working. The second pair lasted 2 months before it’s right side broke off and was left dangling by a wire. I saw another review where the same thing happened to their headphones (right side also broke off). If they reinforced these better, I would buy another set because they sounded great when they did work .

Bought on recommendation of L & M staff based on budget in order to record and create material for our business. Would like to say I compared them against a raft of others, but didn't - sorry - but they are excellent phones. Fine detail for what we require and excellent when recording in the ' field' with the equally excellent Zoom H8 recorder - also from L & M . Equally good for music for pleasure listening. Great quality without breaking the bank and currently $25 off list. Result.

These are well balance closed-back headphones for the price ! From a long time company. I have listened to many headphones but I like the sound of these . I use them for HiFi listening. I am using the Hafler HA-15 headphone amp with the Shure 840.

Make sure you plug them into a quality source. They sound big. For mixing, all the parts are there at the levels you set them at. I would describe them as flat but very pleasant and accurate. Do pay attention to the low end though. Comfortable fit and block they out outside sources well. Seem to be of a solid construction. As with any audio gear, they need to be handled with care, but I wouldn't describe them as fragile. My only complaint is the curly cord; not a fan - prefer straight cord. Yes I would recommend them.

I own a lot of headphones, and have had these for about 10 years. At their price point, they shine. There are many OK phones in the $200 range, but for an extra 80 bucks or so for these, you get a significant step up in balance and resolution. If you need a reasonably priced closed phone for referencing, mixing or just pleasure listening, give these a try. They are a little on the heavy side, but very comfortable and non-fatiguing.

I've had these for 2 years now. they are a fantastic headphone for monitoring, listening to music, mixes, and for any modeller amp you use. I use mine with my new AxeFX III and my Friedman BE-50 and UA OX. They work perfectly and produce a very clear sound when monitoring. I am buying another set as I am recording my band and will use these for each musician monitoring. How anyone could break these as the previous reviewer indicated is beyond me. I've dropped them, they have fallen off of the stand, etc and they are still perfect without issue. I compared every set that my local L&M had and these sounded the best to my ears.

Don't buy these unless you want to have to buy a new pair in a year. I had them just over a year and used them respectfully at home when they snapped. The right ear cup broke right off! The sound and comfortability were great but it has an Achilles heel, a weak spot. They fold and have too many moving parts to last. Everything's made of plastic so you can't even solder or repair them. It's ironic that they gave me an extra set of ear pads and an extra cord but the area that wore out first was the joint. Garbage!

Had been looking for a pair of serious headphones for detailed listening (LP records mostly), guitar and bass silent practicing and eventually recording and mixing at my home mini studio. Went to the store with a budget limit of 200$ and after a few tests with Audiotehnica M50S, Beyerdynamic DT770M, I tried the Shure SRH440, which I found by far the best in sound quality and comfort (main features I was interested in). And then I made the "mistake" of spotting the 840 model right there, put it on and immediately fell in love and went over budget by almost 50$. I don't regret a single cent, for I got the rich crisp sound I was longing for. Very precise and realistic response on all frequencies, great his and mids (even richer mids than SRH440, especially on S.R.Vaughan's recordings), no extra unrealistic bass, but just the true amount (if you want to be lied to, get the Beats). The LP's sound FANTASTIC on them (G.Benson, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, A. Franklin, S.R.Vaughan, even Dvorak and Tchaikovsky). Although I've been playing these records for quite a while, I could say it's a totally new experience, much more richer in sound quality and spatial stereo feeling.

I have a basement recording studio and I record acoustic/unplugged arrangements of rock and country music. I use these headphones for both recording and mixing down to stereo. They are smooth, flat and detailed sounding. My only beef is that due to the lack of a bump in the low end, I tend to over emphasize the bass on mixdown. As long as I keep that in mind when mixing to stereo, my mixes come out sounding like a million bucks! For an amateur/hobbyist basement recording artist, I absolutely love these headphones. Sound great. Neutral. Good isolation for recording. Comfortable but pretty bulky--they feel heavy and solidly built. And they come with a second set of ear pads! That's nice. Like the detachable cord as well.

These are really great headphones. they are relatively flat. ( shure srh440 are flatter tho. These heaphones put out really good sound quality. Very clear sounding. Really good highs and they have enough bass. Where these headphones shine is in the MIDs. They are so good. They are well suited for Acoustic type music tho they are also good for rock. They do OK for dubstep and such genre but if you are looking for extreme bass, these are not he headphones you might be looking for. The bass is just right to make it balanced. The build quality is superb. With the detachable cables, these will last forever. 1 thing tho is that the headband is quite big and a bit heavier than most headphones. These headphones are very comfortable despite being a bit heavy. Over all these are very good set of headphones. They are only $200 but the sound they make is far more than this price range. Simpy unbeatable IMO. RECOMMENDED!!!
