I own two of these. Both the tripod adjusting screw stripped, hence they are now permently gaffer taped.

I dont use tripod stands anymore or booms. If the boom is extended too far, the tripod becomes very tippy. Also the footprint of the tripod legs limits uses, where stage space is limited.

For singing, I recommend one with a heavy pedestal base , and a gooseneck on top.

They dont tip, take up way less floor space on stage, and the gooseneck can be adjusted with a single hand, on stage, while playing .

I've spent more time exchanging them under warranty than I have using them. Every time I use one a new thread strips.\n\n4 warranty exchanges and then the warranty expired.

like others - bought two - used this stand in a light duty application - second time out the boom length adjustment screw stripped. taking it in under warranty but suggest going to a better quality stand.

I replaced this stand after 2 months because the screw stripped for adjusting boom arm length. 3rd time I have used the replacement and exact same problem. Koodos to L&M for replacing it for free the first time. Hopefully they will do the same again

I think it has the potential to be a good basic mic stand but has a flaw. I bought this item and it never came out of the box for several years and the first time I used it, the boom clamp broke apart and rendered the stand useless. I never tightened the boom clamp very hard and the clamp band is only made of thin cast aluminum metal.

Terrible quality. Cheap gunmetal parts with metal screws going into plastic threaded bits. A recipe for disaster. My old mic stands lasted for decades...they actually got RUSTY and I finally bought a new one...one of these...and then other, and another. Never again. K&M here we come.

Set this stand up only once a few months ago. Had never taken it down until last night.. was getting my gear packed for a gig this weekend. When unscrewing it, the little screw stripped and now it’s useless.. I have a gig Friday night .. not impressed with this product.

The steel thumb screw stripped the alloy bushing on the boom arm after about three adjustments making the stand scrap metal. Better material or smarter design on other brands.

It didn't last a month without breaking, and I only used it 3 times! One of the adjusting screws doesn't work anymore and doesn't hold the upper arm. To make matters (much) worse, it slid right into my Shure SM7B, leaving a little dent on it!

The lesson? Don't save on the mic stand that will hold your expensive microphones.

I have three of these stands for more than half a year now for my home recording situation. It's good value, and good quality, with good features that I can work with. You have to watch out, to match one of the leg to be in line with the boom, so that the stand doesn't topple when carrying a quality microphone that actually weighs something.
It's too bad that it doesn't come with a manual, but I think I've figured out its character. You have to hold the bottom pole to twist the plastic part that allows the upper pole to telescope out. And then the upper pole has a 5/8" screw to the boom junction, and so you have to make sure this screw is tightly screwed to the boom junction, rather than getting unscrewed when you twist the bottom telescopic pole.
I really like the tightening bar for angling the boom. This is great that this product has this rather than just a normal screw handle. It really helps tighten -- for example, if the microphone is a bit heavy and rotating the boom down, then you can counter twist AS the microphone is swinging down a little, so you know how much tighter you need to screw, with lesser risk of breaking the thing by twisting too hard.
I had even had the boom completely out and over, horizontal, with an iPad mini clamp hanging over my head. Though I did take the precaution of putting the stand behind a fence that would catch it in case it topples over. But it hasn't toppled over.
And even though the stand can reach such great heights, I can also dismantle it at the 5/8" screw, and store them as two sticks in a bucket.
And since it's the same 5/8" screw as the screw at the end of the boom, I can use it also for a different lower set-up (without the boom).
Love, love, love this product. Thank you, Long & McQuade

Ok, the raging consumer hate is strong in these comments.
Yes, they do have quality control issues, but then L&M replaces the duds without even asking you questions. Otherwise, this is a solution for a musician on a budget. This is not a stand you would take on the road, throw in the back of the bus, or set up and take down multiple times a day for years. Guess what? For $40 it is stupid to expect it to be. I have two of them, the first one was bought 5 years ago, still working fine. The newest one yesterday, and it's fine. It is perfect for home studio, jam space, even occasional gig.

I received the mic stand as a gift. I used it in my home recording studio. It adjusted pretty well. I was able to adjust it to suit a tall singer and even tilt it down low to pick up the sound of a ukulele. After about a year of very light use (I rarely used it) the middle part that you twist to make the stand taller or shorter lost all its grip. If you try to tighten or loosen it, it just goes round and round. Now it's lying in my basement while I decide what to do with it. It worked very well while all the parts worked but I'm disappointed I didn't get more time out of it. I've seen other people talk about this fault in their stands too and maybe it's just a design or manufacturing fault. I hope the newer models work better than the one I got.

I purchased a pair of these stands this year and have used them quite a lot, for practice and gigs. They are relatively inexpensive stands, but they work just fine. We often use a condenser mic, which is heavier than a regular dynamic mic, but we've had no problems.

Nothing too fancy, but not wobbly or made of poor construction. I've had this stand for about 3 years and never had a hitch. That said it stays in the box half the year when I'm not giggin' but no issues to report. Worth the $40-50 I paid.

Picked up this mic stand today because I needed one for my podcast. It is sturdy but could stand to be slightly more bottom heavy. I have the boom pitched downward at about 45 degrees and almost fully extended, The stand has slight balancing issues due entirely to the weight of the mic. These issues do not persist when the stand is positioned more upright or when I reduce the extension on the boom. I have not found any faults in the mic stand, it operates exactly how it should. All the components and fasteners tighten where they should and how they should. I would consider buying another one of these in the future. I have scored this review based on the fact that I know there are more expensive and fully featured boom stands on the market but despite this the stand does what it should and fully meets my needs and expectations. The fact remains that you generally get what you pay for and in this case you get a basic and very function boom stand.
