I spent several months researching the perfect amp. I mostly practice at home but wanted the ability to jam occasionally. I was originally going to buy a tube amp. However after serious research of the Blues Cube line I decided to go solid state. This amp plays and sounds like a British valve amp. I am absolutely blown away by the tone and build quality. If you are in the market for a 30 watt amp, I recommend you try this one. The adjustable wattage makes it perfect for practice at home or jamming with friends.

I've had it for 11 days now, and this is my new favorite amp. I've owned a wide range of tube, solid state, and digital amps, new and old. Everything from a silverface DR and a Mesa Blue Angel to custom made, single-ended, Class A tube amps. This one just sings to me. It gets the chime and the grind that the name would lead you to believe it would. And you can get all those sounds at any volume. The 30W setting is extremely loud, and the open backed cabinet fills a room nicely. The Roland Blues Cube amps go from 0.5W (super useful for cranked sounds at home) to 15W, which has a lot more volume and headroom. The 5W setting on the Hot models is extremely-useful if you want a slightly compressed, drive amp sound to hit with an overdrive pedal in a home or studio setting. The tone controls work wonderfully, and the Tone and Boost switches are highly effective. I leave the Tone on all the time for top end sparkle while playing clean with a Strat. I use the Boost for extra girth - it's basically like hitting the front end with a clean boost. It also has one of the best reverbs I've heard on an amp. This amp loves pedals. The construction is high quality (plywood cabinet). Roland makes bulletproof gear. But it's still lightweight and compact. Yes, it costs more than the Katanas, which are also great amps, but the power amp and the construction on the Blues Cubes are both more robust. The Blues Cube premise is more simple. It does one type of amp as well as it can be done, from input to speaker. When it comes to solid state amps, I find that is more satisfying for me than the Swiss army knife, multiple-models-plus-effects approach. If you want instant access to classic British Vox chime and Marshall crunch - all in a maintenance-free, lightweight package - give it a try!

The Blues Cube Hot "British EL84 Modified" is a special edition version of the standard Blues Cube Hot amplifier. In contrast to the American tweed sound of the standard amp, the Blues Cube Hot "British EL84 Modified" is tuned to produce the voice of a British combo with EL84 tubes, also known as the "class A" sound. Offered in classic black, the 30-watt Blues Cube Hot "British EL84 Modified" delivers convincing Brit combo tone in a compact, gig-ready combo. The New York Blues Tone Capsule circuitry takes the amp into the realm of the British EL84 combo often referred to as the class A sound. Voiced for classic chime at lower settings, the Clean channel becomes sweeter, creamier, and more overdriven as the volume is cranked. Switching to the Crunch channel kicks in a bolder tone with thicker mid range that's perfect for rock rhythms and fat lead solos. Dynamic and versatile, the unique tonal fusion captures the international diversity of the New York City music scene.
