There isn't much info out there on these, but I decided to take a chance on one. Aside from a couple driver hitches initially, it will work pretty much as you need. My system goes down to 2 ms for recording with small project files which is very nice. I have no complaints about the preamps, they will do what you need them to do. I like the look and feel of the box and knobs. You'll mostly want to get this if you need a couple more inputs beyond the basic two. Works great for having people over and being able to give yourself and them a stereo input pair.

Back in November 2018, I gave this interface only 3.5 stars mainly because of problems related to making it work with Windows 10 (I use both main platforms as a matter of course). I tried the Rubix44 and then returned it. I thought it was all done and dusted. It so happened however that my mid-2010 Mac Pro - which with 3.33 GHz six-core Xeon processor, 32 GB of RAM, two 2TB SSDs and two 2TB SATA HDs runs phenomenally well - did not get along with the PreSonus Studio 192 interface (the latter works very well with newer USB3 machines). Things like that happen sometimes. I realised I needed something modern, yet more compatible with my older USB2 Mac Pro that the Studio 192. So I got the Rubix44 back again and have to say that there are very few interfaces with similar great features and qualities within that price range. Firstly, on a Mac the Rubix44 works right out of the box, as it is a class compliant interface (no drivers needed). Setting it up with Logic Pro was a breeze, as it was with Studio One Professional. Secondly, this interface offers quite impressive cleanliness of sound in terms of mixing requirements, which was also noticed by the MusicTech reviewer Andy Jones. Indeed, while mixing a 17-track, super dense electronic composition with thick textures, I was finally able to hear everything with fine, fine clarity. We are talking professional quality here, do not get fooled by those telling you to spend $3000 on an interface! No need for that. Thirdly, and most importantly, the preamps are very clean and quiet, they sound "well above the price point". Fourthly, you are now able to configure latency settings at a very low level. Roland still uses the somewhat mysterious latency scale from 1 (shortest, i.e. best) to 7 (longest, i.e. worst), but once you get used to it and experiment a bit, it all falls into place. There are additional nice touches like MIDI I/O, built-in compressors (two of them), limiter, loopback (as a broadcaster/podcaster I am telling you this is a very cool feature), as well as phantom power switchable in pairs of inputs. A number of front-panel knobs and switches offer good control over the interface itself. The Rubix44 is a "step back" for Roland in the sense it does not offer digital, knob-less controls like the ones the justly famous Octa-Capture had. But this will appeal to all those "old-fashioned" folks who still want to play manually with their knobs (please, do not misunderstand what I mean here). Most briefly, the Rubix44 is an excellent, even great interface that I recommend without hesitation to home and small professional studios, especially those recording standard, four-piece rock bands and jazz combos. To me it looks like another fantastic product from Roland: affordable, very well built (it is incredibly sturdy!), packed with features (the software included is meagre though), and easy to use (which is always a plus). If you are looking for an interface, which gives comfort and does not break the bank - this is it.

Among the countless inexpensive audio interfaces Rubix 24 is in a category of its own. It just works, and works like a charm. What is most important is Roland's commitment to low noise recording - and Rubix 24 delivers beautifully. The noise level is indeed extremely low. The interface is virtually "colourless" in recording terms, which is great. Other worthy qualities are its sturdiness (all metal), ease of setup, and ease of use. It just works ? on a Mac just plug and play, on Windows you need to install a driver and restart the machine (not good; it should be plug and play like on Mac OS X). The knobs offer a certain degree of resistance, which is fantastic. The unit also has a compressor/limiter built in ? a nice touch. This interface works best with wall adapter power supply - 5V DC 2A (USB Micro-B); you may use a regular USB type B micro to USB cable with wall adaptor (like the oned you use to charge your cell phones). On the wish list: 1) Two independent 48V phantom power switches, one for each channel; this would be very useful when you record, say, a solo instrument with one condenser mic and one ribbon mic, the latter not necessarily ?phantom power-safe?. 2) Normal latency settings, indicating the number of samples rather than the highly meaningless scale from 1 to 7; the default setting is 5, which is quite bad (high latency); try 2 for low latency ? it should work well. 3) IMPORTANT: What really sucks is that under Windows the interface will not work simultaneously with ASIO and Windows system sound; you have to unplug and replug, which is like a stone age solution. Why Roland did that is beyond me because other than that it is a great product. I would recommend this interface with a bit of hesitation to the owners of Windows machines - only because of the ASIO/Windows system sound issue. It works flawlessly right out of the box under MacOS X, including 10.14, codename Mojave, and therefore I can recommend this interface without any hesitation to Mac owners.
