Description
When Slayers Kerry King cranks his rig up and his hands fly across the fretboard, his tone is unmistakable. It is the sound of Armageddon and annihilation. He gets his aggressive crunch, overdrive and sick lead tones from the 81, 85 and the PA2 Gain Boost Switch.

I've had this in two guitars and from experience this is what to expect.
*The pickups are slightly tweaked versions of the 81 and 85 , if you've already got emg pickups these CAN not are...CAN be a waste of money unless you have an amazing ear for music. There is no markings or whatever on the front of the pickups setting them apart from the regular 81 or 85 so buying these used can be a bit sketchy. Unlike Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio passive pickups the bases of these are made of plastic where as the other industry standards are metal making them not last as long as we'd hope for if you do a lot of pickup swaps. So that is why the value isn't 10 and the quality is only 7.
The PA2 pre-amp system is limited , it goes straight up to a very static 20 decibels of gain. If you had say an Engl , Bogner or say Mesa Boogie to get my point across and wanted that extra bit of power and intensity you'll either have to really adjust your amp settings and heavily rely on this preamp making it confusing when switching with guitars without it unless you got a guitar processor or whatever to dial into. The quality of the PA2 is flimsy a lot of people complain about them breaking the first few months so hopefully over the years it improved. Just get the Afterburner it sounds cooler for the 14 year olds and it's a push pull potentiometer (knob) on steroids , you pull up on it if memory serves me right and dial in the exact amount of gain you want , gain is extremely important if you're planning to play metal or hard rock to shredding.
overall if you've got some over rated thin necked guitar or something from a store that sells dvds and oranges (you see where i'm going) just get a processor instead it will make 100x the difference these pickups will make if you're beginner or intermediate. If you know exactly what you want by all means.

*make sure your guitar has the room for the solderless kit and 9v battery, some guitars don't and if they don't you will have to solder
