One of the most versatile guitars ever created, the Telecaster is easily at home in any genre, thanks to its flexible sound, alluring style and smooth playing feel. In 1960, Fender offered rosewood as the standard fingerboard wood and launched the Telecaster Custom, an elegant model with a double-bound body and 3-ply pickguard. The American Original '60s Telecaster combines period-accurate sound and style from this electrifying decade with modern, fast-playing feel and pickup switching.

The Pure Vintage 64 single-coil Telecaster pickups are as period-correct as possible, from the enamel-coated coil wire to the cloth-covered output wires, fiber bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. The bridge pickups copper shielding plate adds some zing to your tone, while the pole pieces are staggered for balanced volume between the strings. The mid-'60s "C"-shaped neck profile gracefully fills the fret hand, while the 9.5"-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard will feel familiar to any player. Other authentic touches include vintage-tall frets, original-era body radii, vintage-style hardware (including three steel saddles), vintage-style hardshell case and a lacquer finish that not only lets the wood "breathe" naturally with resonant tone, it also wears in a distinctively appealing way.

A legendary instrument, the American Original '60s Telecaster is the best way to experience the performance, style and tone that made Fender the foundation of modern music.

I bought this guitar second hand from someone in Kingston, it was the only model of this guitar I found in Ontario, the only other one was in Ottawa. The guitar is absolutely stunning in terms of looks. The finish is as expected, flawless. This is my first Nitro finish guitar, so it will wear much sooner than other modern fenders. Sound wise this guitar does not disappoint. I've owned a handful of Teles. A squier Standard, a squier classic vibe, a Fender American special, and a 2026 American professional deluxe Shawbucker. This guitar is a step above the rest. The pickups are exactly what I was looking for. That full airy sound of the neck pickup, but a stunningly aggressive bridge pickup that has no icepick. I play mostly worship but this guitar can cover most if not all genres, the tone knob can get you from aggressive rock tones on the bridge, to beautiful smooth tones for jazz on the neck. Only genre that it may lack is heavy metal but with the right setup it can pull it off. I paid a little less than the full price tag on here. But I can safely say this is the best you can get around this price range without jumping to custom shop prices. All in all I am over joyed with this beauty and she's definitely here to stay.

I got this American Original 60's tele brought in from the Pickering warehouse as they sold two of them that were in stock at my local store (Brampton) before I could grab one. But the wait was worth it! They really nailed the feel, sound, playability and most definitely the looks on these new updates on the American Vintage line of guitars. The pickups sound amazing, not too muddy (neck position) and not too ice-pick shrill (in the bridge position). The neck is a nice full feeling mid 60's 'C' shape, and if you're looking for that original double bound tele look, this one is sure to impress! The case they come with is nice, not quite as nice as the G&G cases that I believe the previous American Vintage guitars came with, but almost as good. Online says 'black interior' but mine came with the red interior and single stow away compartment area near the opening end and latches, same shape and layout as the G&G cases. Comes with some neat case candy as well as the chrome 'ash tray' bridge cover, which looks cool but is pretty much not usable if you mute strings at all, which most everyone does at some point, and explains quite obviously why they became more useful as an ash tray for most people who got them with their tele back in the day. The finish is very cool, you can see where the checking will happen eventually if you put it under the right angle of lighting. The price is a little higher than I wanted to pay, but then again pricing on all guitars across the board have gone up generally, so yes, you could go for an elite model Fender for the same or similar price, but if the original vintage specs and looks and feel are what you're after like I was, the elite models won't give you that, they have very modern features, whereas this model is apparently dead on to the original dimensions and looks (aside from the 9.5" radius neck which I prefer over the original 7.25" radius of the 50's and 60's that makes it feel smaller and more difficult to bend notes without fretting out etc). The guitar is no light weight, but not heavy either, nice and comfy, easy to wear with a strap or sit on the couch and pick away for hours. If you're a fan of the double bound tele's, but also like the more modern feel of the 9.5" neck, and don't want to fork out over $4000 for the custom shop models, then this guitar was made for you, and you won't be disappointed. There are plenty of in-depth reviews online for these now, which would explain a lot more than this review, and trust me, I googled this particular guitar obsessively, but all in all I love this guitar, everything about is is exactly what I was looking for, what I've wanted in a tele for a long time but could not find at this price point. The only thing I didn't like 100% was the bridge saddles. The sound is great, but I didn't like how the strings can fall into the holes drilled out for the height adjustment screws and potentially change the sound, string spacing, and maybe even lead to premature string breaking as they were sitting down into the holes when the strings moved on the saddles, so I opted to swap these out and install Wilkinson brass compensated saddles, which will also help with intonation vs the straight steel saddles supplied with this guitar. But honestly there were no really noticable intonation issues with my particular tele, I'm just particular about them so I changed them out for my own taste. So this is a great guitar, great sound and feel, and looks are just amazing! Give one a spin if you can find one in stock (also available in sunburst and fiesta red!) and you may just wind up taking it home with you.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
