More drums, more sounds, more value.

The DM10 Studio Kit is professional, six-piece electronic drum set with natural-feeling RealHead drum pads, low-noise DMPad Cymbals, the groundbreaking DM10 drum module, and a compact, flexible StealthRack.

DM10 MODULE

You will immediately notice the DM10 modules outstanding sound quality. This new drum sound module contains true drum, cymbal and percussion sounds, built from real samples of classic studio drums and prized cymbals. Drummers will find some of the most in-demand acoustic drum sounds from legendary drum brands, a huge arsenal of top producers' go-to snare drums, real American, Canadian, Chinese, and Turkish cymbals, and a choice selection of classic drum machine and electronic percussion sounds that have fueled the biggest hit records.

Discerning ears will notice that each sound is actually a series of different samples; multiple dynamic-level samples and articulations are all built in so as you play harder and softer, the drum or cymbal changes its timbre, not just its volume. This engineered realism is known as Dynamic Articulation, an Alesis exclusive. You can play with or without reverb for different room sounds and enjoy a wide variety of rimshots, rim clicks and different stick-placement sounds on the cymbals. For example, a hi-hats sound depends on a number of factors: how open or closed the pedal is, how hard it is struck, and other variables resulting in 40 different sounds plus foot chick and heel splash.

The DM10 module not only has a breathtaking collection of sounds on-board, it is also the world's first drum-sound module that enables you to load new sound sets via USB connection from your computer. This means that your sounds will always stay fresh, current and cutting edge.

You can also use the DM10 as a trigger-to-MIDI interface for performing and tracking with software drum modules such as BFD, Toontrack and Reason, among others. For practice, you can play along with the tracks in the DM10s internal sequencer, mix in an iPod or other MP3 player and play along.

The DM10 module has 12 trigger inputs, perfect for creating custom configurations. The DM10s top-panel mixer gives you easy access to creating custom mixes.

REALHEAD DRUM PADS

The DM10 Studio Kit features Alesis acoustic-feeling RealHead pads in 10" and 8" sizes. The dual-zone pads feature real mylar drumheads and real triple-flanged counterhoops for the feel you demand. The snare and tom pads are dual zone, enabling you to perform rimshots, rim clicks or assign other sounds such as wind chimes, cymbals, gongs and cowbells on the tom rims.

RealHead snare and tom pads mount on standard 10.5mm L-rods with low-slip, knurled mounting surfaces.

You can use virtually any single or double kick pedal with the RealHead Kick Pad, or split the DM10's kick input with a Y-cable and connect an optional second kick pad for the pedal feel you prefer.

DMPAD CYMBALS

The DM10 Studio Kit includes a set of four low-noise DMPad Cymbals. The kit includes a DMPad Hi-Hat Cymbal, two DMPad Crash Cymbals, and a triple-zone DMPad Ride Cymbal. DMPad Cymbals provide a rubberized playing surface for a great balance between natural cymbal feel and low stick-on-pad sound. The Ride and one Crash cymbal feature large choke triggers on the undersides for accurate cymbal control. The DMPad Ride also features multi-zone triggering on the bell, face and edge. The DMPad Hi-Hat Cymbal and RealHat Pedal give you continuously variable control from wide open to tightly closed.

STEALTHRACK

The DM10 Studio Kit comes with an ergonomically curved, black aluminum StealthRack. The StealthRack is fully adjustable and large enough to easily accommodate adding on additional pads, yet takes up a fraction of the space of an acoustic kit so it's perfect for studios and rehearsal spaces. It employs standard 1 1/2" tubing for compatibility with virtually all drum manufacturers rack hardware.

The DM10 Studio Kit gives you more more drums, more cymbals, more sounds, more flexibility, and more value to power your creativity.

Loud and junky. Might as well be playing an acoustic set. Then module sounds cheap and dated. Noting enjoyable about playing this unless you aren't a drummer or a musician of any kind.

After reading/watching a number of reviews I recently acquired this kit. Though the reviews differed vastly, some very positive and others extremely negative, my first impression after a week fiddling with this kit is that all the reviews make valid points. 1) Setup. Yes, the default settings are awful and aspects of the kit and setup are finicky but through trial and error, some online research and quite a bit of patience I am now quite happy with how this kit acts. Be prepared to spend some time sitting with this kit and figuring everything out. 2) Feel/Playability. Advertised as providing a more natural feel, the Mylar heads are actually quite unresponsive, loud and generally not very good in conjunction with how the guts of the pads are constructed. I knew before I acquired this kit that I'd be upgrading to mesh heads immediately. I was able to purchase all the mesh heads on Amazon for $80 and the conversion was very easy, probably taking less than an hour all told. The kit feels and plays far superior with the mesh heads and is now comparable to any Roland kit I've ever played. I highly recommended that anyone who purchases this kit do the same. 3) Module/Sound. I haven't spent much time going through the sound bank but from the few kits I have tried the sounds are pretty good as far as electronic kits go. One of the first things I did was to utilize the midi capability to run this kit through Cubase/Superior Drummer 2.0. It was literally just a matter of plugging in the midi cable and selecting the Edrum preset in SD and that was that. I only had to manually reassign one midi trigger. If you want to emulate the most realistic possible sounding drums with your electronic kit, I'd also recommended doing the same. There are other similar programs such as Addictive or EZDrummer if you're on a budget, I just happened to already own Superior Drummer as I use it for my recording projects. 4) Build Design/Quality. Once everything is tightened up this kit is quite sturdy. It's also fairly easy to modify so you can position the drums to your preference. No complaints here. 5) Overall. To optimize this kit you'll have to put in some time and additional cash, but even with the cost of converting to mesh heads, which was relatively inexpensive, this kit is still much cheaper than some of the Roland kits, and in my opinion, totally comparable (once upgraded). If you already own a DAW and EZDrummer, Superior or another similar program, then perfect! Bottom line, if you don't want to spend time setting up and/or upgrading and you're looking for a kit that you can play right out of the box, this definitely isn't the kit for you, but if you're willing to spend the time and make the additional investment, it is well worth it. You'll have a high quality kit and it won't hurt your wallet as much as some of the other options.

Cheaply made. Not quiet to play at all. The hardware slips.everything about this kit is bad. You shouldn't have to calibrate drums out of the box to make them playable. Calibration should be for tweaking not all around function. This kit was not made by drummers. It might look nice but you might as well be playing pots and pans.

I bought this, and I did extensive research about it before I did. Like others have said, if you think you will take this out of the box and set it up and play it with NO configuring, then your experience will be bad. I knew BEFORE buying, that I would have to download the latest patches to the kit, AND adjust the sensitivities - as out of the box - they are at 9 out of 100. I replaced all skins with evans skins, and have adjusted the sensitivity of each drum and cymbal, hats, kick and all to around 60-70 out of 100, and it reacts and feels like an acoustic kit now - with perfect sound. I have been playing for 35 years if that helps you assess my review. I own this kit, and 2 acoustic ones.

Very disappointing kit. Never sounded good from day 1. Module is troublesome. Echo from other signatures is apparent. You must strike one of the toms dead center to get a signature. Even after calibration all toms are at different volume levels.

I thought this was a great kit when it first came out. I had someone from Alesis give this kit as a gift...after only one month I had played it for three hours and the rest of the time it was in getting new triggers. I broke 5 out of the 6 skins, broke 8 triggers and had the kick trigger replaced four times...then I sold it on Kijiji for $500 it's no longer my problem. Module is fantastic no sound you can't find. To bad about the rest of the kit.

I've had this kit for a year now, and I love it. The stock drum samples are pretty decent compared to Roland and Yamaha. All the issues about calibration and triggering can easily be solved by playing with the settings. And once you play with the module and learn a bit, there's so much you can do with developing your own sound by layering, fx, tone, etc. All the heads can be replaced with any head you want. And the frame is sturdy very similar to Roland'

Except for the sales guy telling me not to hit this set, I've had no disappointments with the DM10X. Bought it, put it together and was playing in just over an hour. Don't understand why so many people have had trouble with this kit. Have to admit though, the voice kit setting is a little unnerving lol. $3500.00 cheaper than the Yamaha with the same set up is worth it as far as I'm concerned.

I purchased this kit for its very nice features of real drum heads, 4 toms, and room for expansion. Having previously owned other Alesis gear that I loved I decided to give them a try even with the mixed reviews. I found that this kit looks great but is absolutely terrible! Out of the box the module was defective and would keep popping up a calibration error. Sent it back for repair after only owning this kit a few days, waited 6 weeks for the module to return to find out that it still wouldn't calibrate properly. It also misses about 60% of hits when hitting multiple triggers at the same time. I am hugely disappointed with the Alesis brand for producing such a low quality product. If you happen to get a good one out of the box you're set, however given their low quality control you're looking at a 50/50 chance of ending up with a lemon like I did. Getting rid of these and going with Yamaha or Roland like I should have from the beginning.

I've owned my DM10 Studio kit for about a year. The quality is very good. Out of the box, the drums have some strange sensitivities, so expect to configure the trigger sensitivity if you want to get the most out of this kit. I actually ended up upgrading all of the drum heads to mesh (cost ~$130 total), and now these drums look & feel just like a high-end Roland or Yamaha kit. If you are able, I would strongly recommend checking out the DMDrummer.com forum for details on how to upgrade to mesh heads. Overall, these drums are excellent for the price. With mesh heads added, this kit is indistinguishable from kits that cost $3000.

Pros: -Sounds in the sound module are on par with high end drum brains -Materials seem very sold and kit is quite stable -Great feel while playing, toms are extremely close to real drums -Once built, take down and set up are very quick -Fairly quiet while playing (though not as quiet as mesh heads which you can add if desired) -Lots of room to expand and add pieces -Brain has a LOT of nice extra features (IE recording, line in for play along, lots of different kits and pieces) -User Friendly Interface -Comes with 1 more Tom and Cymbal than most other kits in it's range -Price! Cons: -Hi-hat pedal functionality leaves a little to be desired -Initial setup of brain to get everything dialed in and working smoothly takes a long time. (does not function well at all right out of the box) -Trigger cables are pre-cut to length so changing from intended layout may require purchasing extra cables Overall these drums were everything I hoped they would be and at this price point, nothing else on the market comes even close. The kit responds well to rapid rolls and double kick providing you do not bury and hold your alternate beater (this may cause some missed kicks). Unless you have a Scrooge McDuck size money bin and want to go into a top of the line Roland I see no need to look any further than the DM10. PS. Long and McQuade are the best Canadian retailer hands down, so buy it from them!

Performance Warranty Banner
