Growing up in a family of musicians, including the Juno Award winning Canadian country trio The Mercey Brothers, Mike has dedicated his life to the art of music. He attended Humber College for percussion and is currently studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Previously, he was the songwriter, lead guitarist and singer in The Sourkeys, who were featured on CBC Radio and toured North America. Mike teaches guitar, bass, and ukulele and is well versed in production, mixing and engineering. Mike is a very creative and patient instructor with 15 years of experience in music instruction. He teaches all abilities and styles of music!

Miranda Smith (she/they) is a vocalist, songwriter, educator and bandleader with a Bachelor's degree in vocal performance from MacEwan University. While attending MacEwan she studied under award-winning vocalist Mallory Chipman and performed in numerous ensembles including Showcase Band and the MacEwan Big Band under the direction of Dr. Raymond Baril. She has over 8 years of teaching experience with all ages, in multiple genres including pop, rock, R&B, musical theatre and jazz.

Miranda’s goal as an educator is to make learning a positive and welcoming environment filled with laughter and fun. Her teaching style is energetic, effervescent and follows the pace of each individual student. She crafts a safe space for students to explore what music means to them while also building a strong technical foundation. Singing is her passion but Miranda is also a multi-instrumentalist who thrives when teaching singers to self accompany on piano, ukulele or guitar. Mitch has been teaching guitar since 2002. He’s a graduate of the Red Deer College music program, has studied classical guitar through the Royal Conservatory of Music (3 time Gold Medalist for levels 7, 8, and 9), and has a Diploma in Jazz Performance from the London College of Music. He has studied with some of Edmonton’s finest instructors, and in L.A. with Greg Howe (a touring guitarist for Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake). Mitch enjoys, and has experience teaching various styles ranging from classical music to metal. His has completed the Suzuki Guitar Volumes 1-5 and Suzuki Principles in Action courses. Mitch teaches guitar and bass guitar lessons at our Edmonton South location.

Monika Kowalczuk is an active musician, instructor and performer for special occasions. She earned her BA in Music at the King’s College in Edmonton. With 20 years of training and teaching experience, she has been exposed to various styles and genres of music. She is involved in piano, harp, organ, voice, theory, ear training, harmony, choral music, various forms of dance, including ballroom, theatre, leading and attending workshops, planning and organizing events and performances. Some of her performances have been seen at the Jubilee Auditorium, Winspear, and Royal Alberta Museum. She has expanded to teach group classes with the Yamaha program and is constantly acquiring new techniques and approaches to expose students of all ages to the various aspects of music. As a teacher she strives to be kind, patient, creative, imaginative, fun loving and is committed to having each student excel in their best possible way, whether for an exam, recital or for personal knowledge and enjoyment. Nate is a versatile Ottawa-based drummer with over a decade of experience performing across genres from progressive metal to jazz. He plays with the award-winning rock band Double Experience, his own event band Groove Knight, and a variety of other projects, while also working as a sought-after session drummer for weddings, events, and studio recordings.

Nate has studied under acclaimed drummers Baard Kolstad (Leprous) and Ray Hearne (Haken), honing a technical and musical approach that informs both his playing and teaching. Nelson Collins-Lee is a Canadian drummer, based in Edmonton, Alberta. He plays an eclectic variety of styles (jazz, rock, metal, afro-Caribbean etc.) and has a detailed yet relaxed and student orientated approach to teaching. After completing his diploma in drum set performance at MacEwan University and spending an additional year of jazz studies at the University of North Texas, he has spent the past five years teaching private lessons, performing with bands and continuing to learn. Nhat-Viet (Toto) Phi began playing solo piano at age six, and has enjoyed a long history of success in Canadian music festivals starting even before his national first prize at age eleven. In addition to headlining with several Canadian orchestras and chamber music with his brothers, he has been praised for his wide-ranging collaborative talents across the nation in vocal, choral, string, woodwind, brass and percussion disciplines. From 2007-2019, Toto was the official accompanist for the University of Moncton music department. Since 1990, Mr. Phi has enjoyed teaching piano privately for all ages and all levels including ARCT, in English and French.
